Default IC piping and exhaust size howto?

Can someon point me in the right direction on how to calculate optimum turbo and exhaust piping?

most turbo setups use between 2" and 2.5"inch intercooler piping and the biggest exhaust piping would be 3"inch

most people run 2 - 2.5 inch piping

my friend's 600 WHP prelude uses 2.25 inch piping
