Tech question about coolant leak
Hey I had a post a while back about a coolant leak -- well 2night I went out and jacked the lude up and looked underneath it and examined where the slight coolant leak could be coming from. I examined the oil filter and noticed coolant seeping out from around it and noticed some coolant spray on the coolant inlet hoses that run around it ... I am thinking that the o ring gasket that sets between the block and the oil coolant can is gone and that when it comes under pressure when I am in Vtec and what not it has a tear or something in the ring gasket part number 33 found here
http://www.hondaautomotivepart...AINER
this tear is causing a spray leak of coolant when it is under load it is not that bad and I have seen posts about this before stating that to replace this gasket you need to have a 33 mm bolt and metric wrench -- any advise would be welcomed thanks
Question is if this gasket is gone would it spray coolant only or would not some oil be in that as well since the oil filter is connected to the oil coolant can ??????

The coolant running through there is completely separate from the oil. Having a bad gasket will only cause an oil leak, not coolant. Your leak is either from one of the hoses or the cooler itself is somehow leaking. Most likely it's a hose.
i am kinda leaning towards that as well cause heat goes through the hose and when a hose under pressure leaks it will cause the typcial spray which will condense and maybe cause a drip or two it looks as if the coolant condenses in that area and runs down the filter and coolant can then will drip --- I am sure of one thing though I have big hands and I am sure that it will be a Royal Pain In The A@# operation .....

well a place to start would be to look on he water pipe and make sure that both the hoses that come from the oilcooler/oilheater are not leaking.
and then just hope is isn't iether of your o-rings that seal the water pipe in the head and the block, those ******* are a PITA to replace..

i am freakin lost i pulled the oil cooler inlet hoses off and could not find anything after getting soaked with coolant I re attached the clamps and drive it for a while today in vtec tring to get some idea as to where it was coming from i put it back on a lift and have no signs of leakage would cold weather have something to with it as well???/

i doubt it, the time that your most lkely to experience leaks is when the car is at its hottest. the water in coolant begins to boil alittle and create steam, that added presure combined with all the rubber hoses that are much more giving when hot and mushy , that is ususally when the higher presure finds a spot to push some collant past

I have had cold weather crack gaskets and hoses, though. Or if they're cold and heated up quickly....
That o-ring gasket you reference will leak oil if cracked - that's exactly a gasket that broke on me last winter. Mine was large enough that just regular oil pressure leaked oil - fast.
I agree to check the heater hoses there at the oil cooler and up along the firewall.

I checked em and one side did kinda feel mushy but I could not see anything wrong with it maybe it could have been the coolant hose was not clamped down right or the clamp was up higher on the inlet which allowed some coolant to spray or jet out when it heated up..
