Buying a CRX...
I have been looking for a decent CRX for some time now, preferably one in my area and finally today I came across one. I contacted the guy and I plan on giving it a test run on with in the week. I've used the search feature and haven't come across this topic but what are some common problems that go wrong in a CRX, you know different from other cars. I'd like to get a good bit of questions for the guy as I don't wish to buy a junker even if it is only 2grand. It has a few exterior and interior mods. I dunno about the engine yet cuz I plan on asking bout that when I can see for myself. The exterior appears to have very little rust though it was dark so I wasnt able to take a peek underneath. I know this is a general question but anything would help. Thanks.
RUST (sorry to yell) but the biggest problems the honda community has to face
second any frame damage or wrecks
check some of the bushings under the car too and the engine bay for being clean.
basically see if he took care of the car

Yea I checked for rust (from what I could see it was dark) and it was pretty clean. The interior didn't look beat either. Seems like too good of a deal to be true though though it must run becasue ive seen him out driving it.... most crxs sell for about 4000 and hes only asking 2. (i live in pa so they arent very common) thx for the help though.

wow. That is alot of money. 2 is the max anyone around here would pay for one, for a clean one.
CRX's seem to last forever if you take care of them properly. I don't forsee any problems.

wow. No. Don't buy a car that's been beat to crud either. (ie tons of mods, orange paint, and a body kit)
Look on Ebay or Cars.com. I've gotten a clean, rust free 1991 shell with a DPFI to MPFI conversion already done for about 800 off of there once. I bought my recent Si for 1300, 161k miles, strong D16A6 motor and perfectly flawless everywhere else. A little rust, and that's it. Don't pay 4 grand or even 2 grand for something that's not worth it. A little research will go a looooong way.
Oh, and take some pics of this car you're looking at, try to post them here, and well help.
Good luck.
Oh and look for an Si above all else.

Check for rust everywhere..1/4 panels, gas door, sunroof if it has one, rocker panels,..Just check everywhere..
Alot of crx's tend to leak in the hatch and the spare tire well will fill with water..
The radiator usually leaks..
Sometimes the fans stop workin..
Check for grinds in all gears..
Go over bumps and see how the car performs..
Make sure all the controls for the vents work..
Make sure the sunroof opens and closes all the way..
Make sure all gauges work..
Make sure the car doesnt smoke to bad..
Also make sure the car doesnt leak gas..The fuel lines sometimes rust out near the gas tank and drip gas everywhere..(Happend to me..)Its from the salt and **** that corrodes every damn thing..
Ask the owner alot of questions over and over and see if he changes his story..
Good luck with the purchase..

I bought my CRX knowing full well it had that fuel line leak... lol. the price was awesome, and the fix was only like 150 to have a shop replace the tank.
Sorry. back on topic.

LOL.
I wouldn't pay more than $1500 for a crx. Even then it would have to have a perfectly straight body with no rust on it and full interior.
Check the front of the car completely for frame damage. Look under the hood and make sure the body isnt all wrinkled up.

I bought a CRX yesterday in LA. It was an 89 HF with only 105K miles with original motor. I only paid $1500 and it only had rust on the roof. I love it but the only problem was the whole interior was gone like the door panel and the back trunk.

If its the stock black mint 91 si that i seen driven by an old man occazsionally and has it parked in front of his estate on the back roads then i would shell out 2g.
but even then. i would only pay $1500, The dealer would only give him 800 cash tops for it, so right away he'll make double.

the car is from pa..chances are it has rust..somewhere. make sure to completely get underneath that car and check. get yourself dirty checkin. unless this is a car from florida, or amazingly taken care of it should have rush somewhere. take pictures, take lots of pictures. post them here. badger the guy with questions..if he's honest then he wont mind. in fact he should tell you everything about the car from top to bottom if he's honest. if he says "i dont know" about a certain question, i warn to stay away. what kind of crx is it, mileage? make sure to have all questions answered on this website before you buy that car.
