ok well I think it's the actual lever...... anybody else had this problem? Anybody have any ideas?

i did that once. the door wasnt shutting so i bent the small metal flap on the door to come over the metal on the inside so it would close. i then noticed that the gas door lever was open...thats why it wasnt catching. i just stuck a small screwdriver in there and pried it out. i put a small towel on it as not to damage the paint. after about 2 mins of wanting to shoot myself, it popped open. if its the actual lever, youre going to need to rip some **** up and pull on that cable or youre not going anywhere for a while

 

there is no key.
