Default Tire restorer? Is there really such a thing?

I remember hearing a few people talk about some magical spray or something that you put onto your tires and brings em out of a beat up shape. My hoosiers have been sitting in the garage all winter(not bagged) and it hasnt been extremely cold around here. Is it worth my time to look into this product or should my tires be ok? Thanks.

No I'm not looking for polish thank you Heh, I know you cant fix the tread. But I swear I heard people talking about something that softens the tires up a bit.

There are some products like VHT, or track-bite. These are traction compounds for slicks. They do not "restore" the tire, but rather soften the tires outer surface for a brief period of added traction.

i didn't even know that they softened the tread. AFAIK, it's just sticky that's all.

You are correct in reguards to the track bite... Its just a sticky treatment for the track.. My bad. However there is a tire treatment called formula V I believe...

if you're talking about the sidewalls and not the tread then you can use that stuff called "black again." They sell it at www.carcareonline.com

In my August 01 edition of GRM there is an article about traction treatment where they used a tread restorer to soften up older tires. The treated tires (slicks BTW) where about 6/10's of a secound quicker for one driver, and where nearly three secounds quicker for another, all tests in the same car. The contact information in the article was; Competitive edge racing products (919)847-6116 http://www.competitiveedgeracing.com. They used the tire stand and the Formula V Traction Treatment. The article of course goes into far greater detail and is definitely worth reading. It's on page 53. HTH.

I'll second that... very good reading and could save you some $$ in the long run.
