Default is this quote reasonable?

car: 1990 honda accord

I took it into the muffler shop to get it looked at since my muffler was hanging crooked.

That was easy to fix as I didn't notice that you can simply slip it back on to the hanger. However, the mechanic showed me 2 spots where the exaust was leaking and told me that the entire exhaust was rusted and needed replaced from the flex pipe to the muffler. He would also replace the flex pipe and a portion in front of it.

The total quote he gave me was $238 for 2 exhaust pipe parts $75 in labor and $49 for a flex pipe piece.

Just curious.. what you guys think about this... my dad will probably pay for it in a while (feb 1) I definately won't be footing the bill but I was curious what alternatives there were and if this is expected.

in socal..

couple of welds would cost 10 dollar, add straight aluminized steel pipe would be like 15 dollar total.

flexpipe(oem sized 2inch+) should be 35 dollar at most place

labor? what labor? i'll pay 60 for everything

I got 2.5" from the cat back with a SS magnaflow muffler & a 18" SS magnaflow resonator for $220, that included removing the old & disposal.

That shop wants to rape you

The quote sounds reasonable to me.
The problem is you get what you pay for. Expect to change your exhaust at regular intervals with cheap after market exhaust components.
I have a 99 Accord and I live in Ontario where we use lots of salt on the roads in the winter. My car has nearly 300000KM on it. I still have the original factory exhaust after nearly 7 yrs of driving. Why, beacuse the original factory exhaust is made of stainless steel. Unless you pay extra for stainless expect to keep changing your exhaust at regular intervals.
When your exhaust goes everyone wants the cheapest quick fix going. The whole muffler/exhaust industry wants you to take the cheap way out so that they will get you for the return buisness. A "lifetime" exhaust warranty generally only covers labour- the parts you must buy over and over. The mark-up on parts covers the labour generally so they get you either way.
Spend a few extra dollars and get an exhaust that will last. Let them get you for one exhaust change during the life of your car- not 3 or 4 as they would like to.
Pay them now or pay them later. Take your choice.
