Default new development.... rear disc swap

Well, i'll have to admit that this is the first time I have ever been dissapointed with IAS. As many of you read https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1105332 I got a rear disc brake swap from them and put it on. Everything went smooth till i put the wheel on the passenger side and saw the trailing arm was bent. Well, they agreed to send a replacement assembly complete minus the caliper. So i got that on friday and was all ready to put it on, when i opened the box it was a bare trailing arm. I called back and they said they would ship the hub assembly on friday. So i left it at that and didnt do anything on the car, hoping it would come saturday (ups). Well it didnt, so i attributed it to them not payin the few bucks extra. Today i find out they didnt ship it at all. So, now i'm goin to get started with everything today, but my question is this.

How can i tell if the hub/bearing is messed up. I just have this weird feeling that with whatever caused the thing to bend like it did may have messed up the hub as well.....

here is a pic to remind you of the damage

how i check hubs:
- with wheel off, spin it
- with wheel on and weight on it... grab the back of the tire at 3 and 9 o'clock and pull towards you alternating hands... there should be no play.

ok with the messed up everything on, before we put the wheel on, when the disc was spun, it sounded like it was warped, kinda catching in a certain place. Now, not exactly sure if that means anything.... seeing as how everything else was kinda messed up so i dont really trust how everything was sitting

edit... also IAS is sending another hub to hopefully finally be here tomorrow, still not happy i wasnt informed it wasnt shipped out last week

Its going to sound like that if there is rust on the rotor... nothing to worry about.

Also, when checking for a damaged wheel bearing, you should be attempting to find play with NO LOAD on the assembly. Loading it will only make it that much more difficult to find a damaged bearing. You can also tell when a wheel bearing goes bad from driving the car. It gets VERY loud.. sounds like a freight train. You'll know. I highly doubt its bad.

The swishy noise, when spinning the hub w/ the disc ON it, is normal (best to test w/ the disc off). You should be okay swaping everything over to the new TA. I would try it out & then if have any more problems, let IAS know.

Just try to keep in mind that these parts are coming off wrecked cars, so patience is important.

I dont blame them, you probably weren't planning on sending the defective part back to them so they could put it on a good trailing arm and then resell a set.

lol, the trailing arm was what was bent and thats what they replaced. I mean damn man.

yes, but i wasnt entirely comfortable with just replacing that when clearly the impact had to be great, and who knows what else it could have fucked up. I understand they replaced what was clearly damaged, but still..... I understand patience is a virtue, and i've been pretty patient, but when things dont get done that are promised, then i'd be willing to bed just about anyone of you would be irritated as well.

edit: and if they had said they would like the messed up trailing arm and the hub that came with it back, i would gladly ship it back..... just feel bad for anyone else who gets it

yeah, I see where you're coming from but you probably didn't communicate with larry correctly heh. From my past experiences with him, he tends to take things literally.

if you told him, "hey man, I put the setup on and the right rear trailing arm is bent from some sort of accident can you send me a replacement" he took that as you needing a replacement arm only.....so that's what he sent.

In his defense though, I doubt that hub assembly is damaged much if at all even in the bearing area since that's a high tensile load bearing designed to hold up under the stress of a 2k+lb vehicle moving at different angles/speeds. Which is why the flimsy *** sheet metal trailing arm is what gave way first during the impact.

but this is just me.

To check a hub for runout or warpage you are going to need a dial indicator with a magnet mount. Place the magnet in the area of the hub and then preload the dial indicator on the hub, find the lowest place and then zero it out. Then spin the hub assembly to see how much runout you have.

I have bent a rear arm before.

Your asking about the bearing/spindle because when you drive the car that tire is making allot of noise huh? I think the noise was mostly coming from the tire because it was misaligned in my case.

Its very hard to describe. If you look at the arm and compare the area where the pivot bushing passes through and the area where the hub mounts they should be parrellel. When my arm was damaged it was twisted.

It was clearly stated between the 2 of us on the phone that he would send an entire assembly minus the caliper since that is a part that worked.... I have had many good experiences with them as well which is why i said this was my first time being dissapointed with them as a whole. It was more the lack of over all communication coming from their side that dissapointed me. The hub should be here today, and the entire deal will be done. I am from now on just going to be much more careful about buying used parts and doing my best to inspect them first.

btw, i'm not sure where you are getting any kind of TENSILE loading on a bearing here. The spindle would see fairly high SHEAR loading. The bearing sees compression loads.....

and to the other guy, its the correct parts, just messed up, the camber issue is BECAUSE its bent.
