Default Canon G6? anyone like dislike?

i love canon, and after good times with my powershot a60 and other cameras before it im hooked on canon and its time to up my power. looking at the G6, done searching and only found another user on here with one. anyone else have one and anything else know much bout em? i was thinkin the S1 also. but that one doesnt have the classic canon AIAF.

any help would be great! thanks ahead of time!

if youre looking to stay with a point and shoot style camera i say go with the g6. cant really go wrong. but if you dont mind having a bigger camera, for the money the g6 costs id go with the digital rebel. far superior image quality besides the obviously interchangable lenses, blah blah. plus theres a $100 rebate on the camera through the end of the month. hope that helps.

Check my sig. I love mine the pictures are crisp for a fixed lens camera, cost stays down because you don't need extra lenses, you can either go point and shoot with it or full out custom, its relatively cheap right now, you can't beat the size for the features really. I can't really think of anything I don't like about it besides the fact that its not a d70 or 20d but that'll be later down the road.

Same with me, I'd rather learn the basics first then move up.

if you dont think youre ready for an slr and wanna learn the basics first, then deff go with the point and shoot style camera. like j_ambrose said above, you can go fully automatic or fully manual with the g6. id prolly recommend the g6 over the s1 because the g6 is higher res (7.1mp vs 3.2), takes a rechargable lithium pack (bp511a vs AA batteries), and has a hot shoe which allows you to put on a more powerful flash if you see the need to. the pluses of the s1 are the 10x optical zoom, image stabilizer, and obviously the price tag. both are great cameras, but i think the g6 gives you more room to grow.

Aside from its bulkiness, the G6 would be my first choice if I were to get another p-n-s digital camera.

id watch out about going higher than 1gb. if the card crashes or somethin like that and you got a lot of data on it youre kinda screwed.

even 512 is overkill imo, but then again i always upload all my pictures and then delete them off the compact flash card after i get done taking a series of pictures.

I use a 512 like AzntaggeR and just upload everytime I'm done with a set, seems to work for me.
