Default STUPID EASY AFR ?

My understanding is the air fuel ratio is read air/fuel like 12.0/1 correct?

My tuner who put my breakin tune set mine to 13.5/1 and it is really rich..too rich

now i am ready to run boost and i am told to run it at 11.5 to 12.0/1 but wouldn't that be even richer (less air). how can this be right? I just feel stupid thinking about this and i expect someone will be able to help me out real guick here.

thanks and i know ....i'm an idiot

FI = more air. more air then NA = More fuel then NA

I undestand that FI introduces more air to the mix but AFR is a ratio so it shouldn't matter right.

In other words if there is 2 widgets of air and 1 widget of fuel in a NA car

and there are 4 widgets of air and 2 widgets of fuel in a FI car

they are still both at 2/1 AFR correct

True, but with forced induction your cylinder pressure gets really high. The rich A/F ratio is used to minimize/eliminate detonation.

Power = heat. The extra gas helps the cylinders stay cool, your pistons will expand *much* faster in an f/i application due to the extra heat, which causes a lot of wear and if it gets too hot, well, bang. Extra fuel = safer unless you start dumping fuel out the exhaust ports and burn/melt your exhaust valves

so is your afr in boost 13.5:1. if so thats real bad. you want like 12.0:1 like you stated in boost. in vac 13.5 isnt too bad. a little rich at spots, but other than that ok.

This is what you want it should look like. The x axis is vaccum and then to boost. The y axis is rpms and the middle stuff are all fuel values. Notice in idle and daily driving you want about 14-15/1. In full throttle NA you want 13.5.

Carb Connection seems to be notorious for running everyones car extremely rich for break in. A lean condition can be very dangerous for an engine but a rich tune can be just as devastating to newly installed rings. My whole theory is to break it in on the dyno and apply boost ASAP. Immediate tuning is crucial in an engines life. If you are running Hondata you might want to try to contact Crecent from C-Speed or I heard Intec Racing in Kent knows there ****. Good luck.

Carb connection is notorious for blowing apart internals and not taking responsibility....and then charge you an arm and a leg.

Correct me if Im wrong but it sounds like your tuner set you up for a constant 13.5 AFR? This means idle, cruise, light cruise/decel, and wot. 13.5 is rich for cruising. You should be 14.7 ~ 15.5 for light cruising.

At WOT you should be 11.5 ~ 12.0 for boost or ~13.0 for NA.
**These values are just rough guidelines**
