Almost got owned...........
So I was driving my CRX home from work tonight, worked from 9:00 am to 10:30 pm and also only had 3 hours of sleep the night before. I was about two miles away from my apartment when all of a sudden, WHAM!!!!!
I passed out at the wheel, hit a curb, jumped the curb, barely missed a street sign, cranked the wheel to the left, jumped off the curb and spun around facing the wrong way. The whole time i'm thinking "F*ck I hope there is no one behind me" Luckily there wasn't anyone behind me.
So I pull into an Albertsons parking lot to check the damage and what do I find? Nothing. No curb damage on my rims, no dents, not even a scratch on my bumper. Don't know how I pulled that one off but I sure as hell feel lucky.
Never thought I would be one of those people that would fall asleep at the wheel. Didn't see how it was possible. I always thought, "Hell if you're tired just pull over somewhere and pass out there. It's better than getting in a wreck." But now i know that sometimes that sh*t just happens.

Yea its very possible. I've never actually fallen asleep at the wheel, but i do find myself driftin off and snappin back to alertness sometimes on real long trips if i'm tired. General rule for me is to keep some gum and a bottle of Mountain Dew on me when I go anywhere distant. Chewin the gum keeps u active, and Mountain Dew is loaded with enuff sugar and caffeine to make u like, fly and ****.
Also, be careful wit ur suspension cus just because u dont see damage it may still have been weakened. I reversed up a curb kinda hard in my old 86 crx one time (i was a newb at the time) and like months later my i had a trailing arm break clean in half. Uncool.

Thanks for the warning. I planned on checking out my suspension tomorrow. To dark outside right now of course. It rode fine on the way home, but like you said just because it seems okay doesn't mean it is.

I have a few tricks that I use when I feel sleepy at the wheel....
1 Roll down my window.
2 Chew gum as stated above.
3 Pinch my self on the inside of by bicept close to my armpit (this of course is painful)
4 If none of thoes are working I pull over and take a nap.
Altho I have never been past step 3 lol that **** wakes you right up.

another good way to stay awake is to get a cd with lyrics that you know and sing a long. Hell, if you dont know the lyrics makes up some... "you can find me in tub, bottle full of bub with mommy sayin rub a dub" etc
Having something to eat is a good thing. i'm in a band and we tour often, I just got back from 6 days all the way down to gainesville FLA and back up to long island NY. Lots of 10+ hour drives, sometimes very late at night.
If you feel really tired pull over and get out of your car and do, like, 4 laps around the car. Works like a charm.
