+20hp chips?
Out of curiosity, would these +20hp chips work well on _some_ kinds of cars?
I've read that some BMWs respond really well to these chips (I know Dinan makes one), so I was just curious if this was "hype" by the manufacturers or whether there is some performance behind these things (at least for some kinds of cars).

I wouldn't trust any of those generic chips on E-bay or something. I would only buy from somebody trustworthy on H-T like Kenji. But by itself a chipped ECU wont do much. If you are doing a bunch of mods like IHE, cams, and TB and you dont feel like doing your own tuning, you can buy a socketed ECU with a preburned chip for those mods that you have.
The good thing about a Kenji chipped ECU, is if you decided to get into doing your own tuning, then the ECU will already be setup for it. My Kenji P28 is uberdata ready, so I would just have to yank out the chip and plug it into my ROM burner and do my own tuning. Or if you want to see if you can handle doing your own ECU socketing and chipping check out the links in my sig. Start off with the keebler site, then the PGMFI site.

I think they make good HP on cars that are inefficient from the factory, like fords and chevys.+20hp on honda= BS

I have been using them on Fords and chevys and got great response but never heard of any for hondas that work, find out from JET perfomance chips, no off name brands, these guys have been doing chips for all major racers.

JET chips are garbage. ive seen them slap a sticker on and send it back with no chipping done.
factory prom was still attached.

Increasing fuel on a car that doesn't need it is stupid. It's a total waste of time, and money. Plus it's just going to make your car run rich.
Whenever you see things that say they can add up to 20 hp, you have to realize this is in a very extreme case! For example say you're pushing 13 psi boost, and have no fuel correction.... then hell yes, a chip programmed to add that extra fuel to correct for the boost (ex: Turbo Edit) might add 20 horsepower because the car was previously untuned (meaning the a/f was terrible so it wasn't running at full par.)
Same goes with exhaust set up. If you're running a turbo B-series into a 1" wide little straw of an exhaust made for a 1.5 liter SOHC, then sure you're going to see huge gains when you throw on the big 2.5" exhaust set up, where if you put it on your DX civic, it isn't really going to do much of anything.
Remember those numbers are in extreme cases. If your car is already running a great a/f ratio because it's stock, or near stock... then NO a chip won't really do ****. Best thing to do is get something like Turbo Edit, and an EP rom burner so you can make your own chips!
Remember, the people making the chips don't know what you have on your car, so why should they be the ones telling your car how much fuel it needs? You should be chipping your own ECU.

Those e-bay chips are good for blowing dizzys. I had one in my car (got it for like nothing that I just had left over in my paypal account) Well the stupid thing advanced my timing so much I went through 4 dizzys in about 1 1/2 years. Took it out and no problems since.
if it throws more fuel in there, you might get lucky if you have a lot of intake mods but wouldnt getting the car tuned porperly be safer?
what if it leans you out and decreases the life of your motor?, sure it would yeild more horsepower, but at what eventual cost to you?
youd have no way of knowing really.... unless you have an apexi or a standalone, which usually only the turbo guys have and they usually dont ask about those 20 dollar wonder chips anwyay.
sorry, bottom line, i wouldnt do it. they have no way of knowing what your car does or doesnt need. they are just advancing stuff blindly.

because it ups the boost.. OR because the cars are detuned quite a bit in the factory.. you'll be lucky to find a 2hp gain from some stupid *** chip on a stock honda motor.

there is a ebay seller.. who sells mugen, minesvx and spoon chips that you install into your ecu. i took it to a person who burns programs and tunes and he said it was legit and match the same program(in ignition, timing, vtec, rev,no governor as well) it was replicated from. Sooo in my case bump for a $25 Spoon program that actually was something.
because everyone and there f'in mother charge $75!+ for programs and for installment, and i know how to solder so why not do something myself for free? it was either this, and if i lost $25 for the ecu being junk i'll just wait to get hondatas200
I knew a person who did it.. i didn't say they would give me a break on payment. It was a big hassle enough to get them to check it out for me.

yea i figured they were talkin bout the prom solder in ones, i bought one for my acccord and it fucked it all up!?!?!? the car wouldnt go over 3500rpm like that was the new revlimter
In turbo cars, the chip is easy but expensive way to gain lot more torgue and power. In N/A, especially with Honda. I would say no, maybe 1-2 on stock motor.

DOES NOT WORK! It is a scam. all it is, is a resistor. My brother found out the hard way.
