Default AEM bypass valve install on a 93 Civic Hatch [ looking for photos ]

So, the original reason I was posting about this was to see if anyone out there had photos of their bypass valve installed on a civic. The reason I am curious was because I was going to install one on my car, was reading the instructions where it said to install it as high on the intake pipe as possible and also to have atleast a 1" clearance all the way around. Because I have a strut brace installed, this sort of pushes the bypass valve to be installed right above the 2nd bend in the intake pipe that leads to the wheelwell.

Was hoping I could see some other installs of where people have installed them.

=====

On a side note, I was reading AEM's website about the bypass valve and read the following:

The AEM Bypass Valve is used to protect the engine from hydro locking. Hydro locking occurs when the end of the inlet pipe is submerged in water and the water is sucked into the engine. Driving the vehicle in rainy conditions is not enough to cause a problem unless the vehicle becomes submerged enough that the inlet end of the pipe is immersed in water. Rain impingement on the filter will not cause a hydro lock condition. The distance of the filter from the road dictates the level of water that can cause damage. This distance varies with the vehicle ride height which is why there are no published numbers for this measurement

So the only reason to install is in the off chance you come across water deep enough to submerge the filter. This has never happened to me in the 5-6 years I have owned this car. I used to live in TN and now live in Southern Ca where rain is as scarce as an elephant parading down the street.

Although anyone who lives in SoCal right now knows the amount of winter rain we are getting, which sort of scares me a little bit.

It seems the logical thing to do is just install it since I already own it, and since I do not plan on racing this car until I happen to swap motors one day, the slight HP loss is not really going to bother me at all.

I dunno. Anyways, anyone have any photos???

or you could risk hydrolocking your engine.

Really, your chances of hydrolocking with a CAI are minimal if you leave in your fender lining/bumper lining.

true dat true dat.

i live in socal. san diego to be exact. i haven't seen it flood to badly over here to put your CAI in harms way. im runnin a CAI too on my 99 si, and my lining sometimes opens up (i haven't hooked them to the bumper yet..stupid missing screws!!). yea i was a lil bit concerned bout driving in the rain, but like the lil excerpt that you posted said, its gonna take the whole pipe to be submerged to be a problem, which means, the intake has to be sucking in a whole lot of water to damage the engine.

and IMO the bypass valve is a waste of 25 dollars. yea you feel more secure with it, but like the excerpt says, it only works when the filter is submerged in water. so unless you live in a place with massive flooding (enough to reach the filter) or if you are planning to drive the car into a lake, then go on right ahead and buy the bypass valve. if not, then i suggest that you dont.

again that was my opinion

word.....I am in Oceanside and haven't seen any crazy flooding but I know the freeways of LA were flooded a couple of weeks ago and near my exit, there were some posted flooded signs but I was out of town during all of that rain so I don't know how bad it actually was.

still would like to see some photos of the bypass valve installed if anyone has them.....
