Default DX mods

I want some ideas for a civic DX 2000. I know that non-v-tec turbo cars are quicker then v-tec cause of the variable valve timing, but, i dont got the cash yet, and i just want to know what are other mods in the mean-time other then the basics, i.e. exhaust, intake, cam gear, pullies... serious efficient mods...

i wouldn't say you know enough..no one knows enough.....lets just say ur new to this and are starting to learn more....hey..everyone has to start somewhere......and of course turboing a non vtech he he he..whoops i mean Vtec...LOL would be faster than a stock vtec motor....lol..i sure hope so...but like what Mr Pimpon said...gee..if turboed non-vtec motors are faster than the turboed VTEC...why dont' Steph, Kubo, and Rado convert to the non-vtec...he he..im just giving you a hard time.......

Smell ya later,

as far as the v-tec and non-v-tec turbo charged cars go....if it were a DX and EX, with the same mods, supposedly the DX should win, due to v-tec, when i drop my turbo, we'll find out....but im considering a supercharger i saw for about 3G.

squeez till it pops then get a real motor

be seriously, you will feel a nice punch buy getting a header or a ex/si exhaust manifold...that header/cat combo bullshit honda put on the 96+ DX motor is a joke. that 1.75" piping doesn't help either. also, get a EX intake manifold and a nice CAI or a SI airbox, you will feel some good low end power from having the longer and bigger runners (plus having a actual plenum...) Next shop for a 88-91 Si cam, they are around and you kind find a nice grind for n/a (they are cheap too). Get a cam gear with the cam and tune it on the dyno. If you can, find a 92+ EX tranny, the ratios in the DX make me want to puke, you can find those trannies cheap, take about a day to install with friends.

with all that, you can have a nice motor to cruise around in and it will null the PESTERING urge to get a B motor a tad until money comes your way.

question as far as exhaust from the header back....on a DX is it possible to put a header, or does it need to be an EX header with a hole drilled in it for the O2 sensor. I've heard mixed comments about this, and I have yet the opportunity to put them on, just bought a body kit....

for cheaps: get a Si/EX D16 exhaust manifold and downpipe and a 99+ Si (b16) cat. after you intall everything just move the 2nd O2 sensor to the cat by just extending the wires (cut and soder).

good luck, its fairly easy.

just to ease confusion, the 99+ Si cat has a O2 sensor plug already cause thats where the stock Si's is.

Okay I am going to jump back in here.

1. You cannot compaire any turbo charged car to another unless the come from the factory and you don't modify anything. Just too many damn differences. What if the trim on the turbo wheel is slightly differenty from one to the other......given that everything was properly installed.

2. You can ask anyone in the FI section and it is possible to make a Non Vtec engine more powerful than a Vtec but the VTEC engines are built stronger because they were made to make power unlike the non vtec engines.

3. IF you have 3,000 dollars do not waste your money purchasing a supercharger for a SOHC. The most you will get is 8 PSI and that is probably good for about 140 wheel horsepower when a 3,500 B18C1 engine will give you 150 wheel horsepower and Honda reliability!!!

4. (No Flame intended) If you take a step back and look at things you will see that there is a large amount of people here who have a great amount of knowledge and if you start bumping heads with them they will not want to share there knowledge with you.

Have a nice day.

best bang for buck would be a trans swap as was mentioned earlier. get a trans from a 92-95 ex/si or 96-00 ex.

same size as a T3, but its better, think the fan blade positions are modified too, im doing it in a few months....im only paying about 2G for all of it, intercooler, piping, and its professional....

i know what your saying, i know v-tec is more powerful... [(side note) : im not trying to bump heads just voice my thoughts and some convos me and friends had..as stupid as they are....], and as far as v-tec and non v-tec, i would rather charge the SOHC instead of doing a full si conversion, and if i were to do anything, i would swap heads with an EX, ECU also. That is possible right, or do i need to do more then just the ECU/head swap... im going into the engine, so when im done, i should be good to boost about 15psi..... im changing pistons, rods, and engine guard i think its called. Like i said, im getting a great deal on the whole thing. 2100 for everything, including pistons rods, piping, etc.... no pun intended....its nice when a SOHC can hang with or beat a DOHC..... shows we can be just as good

Hybrid Racer:
I don't think you realize what you are getting into. Maybe you should becareful that you aren't getting jacked. The said "engine guard". Did you mean Block Guard? I am not trying to clown, but I just think you should make sure you know what you are buying before you spend a couple grand on some "Here say" type ****. BTW, I hope that isn't your car in your Avatar. 2nd, Why hybrid-racer- isn't your car just a DX or CX... if hybrid, why all the talk about SOHC? Not being a dick, just curious. Just my $.02

Yes you can swap the heads....called a mini-me.

I would start asking questions before I have this done to my engine if I were you.

The bottom end needs to be completley rebuilt for 15 psi maybe even sleeved.
Make sure that everything you get is forged. Oh, what compression are you going to run for the turbo?
