Default h23 with h22 piston compression

i am thinking about putting h22 pistons into my h23 to bump up compression . but i know that there are a few different kinds of h22 pistons . i wanted to know what would the compression be for each of the h22 piston if they were put into an h23 ? also, i dont know much about engine building, but ive read that the h22 piston will stick out a little bit from the block . would i need to do any kind of machining or would it be fine with the piston sticking out like that ? plan to purchase some cams in the future so i dont know if it would be a problem .

also, i wanted to know the compatibility between oem internals . could i swap any crank and rods from any other motors into the h23 ? and would it be worth it or should i stick with my h23 crank and rods ?

well the h22 piston situation you have 3 different pistons, usdm h22, jdm h22, and type s pistons....but i havent gotten an accurate anwser on what compression will be yeteither so i'll we'll have to wait for that

with the internals, switching the crank and rods into a h23 would make it 2.2.....so its not something benificial....you will be losing power instaed of making more....

I've been told just add a full point (USDM H22 pistons in H23 ~11.0:1), but like hondafiend said theres alot of debate on the subject.

aww too bad Rick Solis here....I remember he had a 6 page thread that he was going to figure it all out and prove everyone wrong and then...nothing

Anyway 4th gen rods are compatible with 4th gen pistons. The only real way is to get them and cc everything

Didn't he get banned for that thread?

you'll need to take your rods to a machine shop to get rebushed if you use Type-S pistons (not sure about other h22 pistons)

That could be due to the fact that you locked the thread for no aparent reason a few days before I was able to get everything done. Then, blocked me from being able to PM you to let you know I had the results and wanted you to unlock the thread.

My PM's to you were blocked on both HT and PO.com which led me to contact another mod to have the thread re opened. I was told that reversing another mods actions is a big no no and that I needed to contact you to have the thead re opened. With no way to contact you I decided to let it be.

Im sure you had your reasosn though, Im over it and dont really care anymore.

It sucks for the members though, for those that could use the info that thread would have provided. Posts like this would have already been anwered.

And just to set the record straight, that thread wasnt about proving anyone wrong. It was about finding definitive asnwers for questions that had never been answered before.

H22 pistons with the H23 crank and rods stick out of the H blocks about .017

If your trying to calculate it on the c-speed compression calculator you can just set deck clearance at 0 and subtract .017 from the stock .026 gasket which will give you the correct piston to head clearance to work with.

CC volume, well lets see how this bit of info goes over. I have H22/23/F22/23 and type S pistons right here and may be willing to do a little write up.

Hopefully it wont get locked the second time around

Just a hint though, its higher than 11.0:1 when using H22 pistons in a H23 VTEC set up

bore:87
stroke:95
head:50cc
piston:-2.0cc (usdm)
headgasket: .026
piston-to-deck: -.017

11.494780464123207:1

lets just hope all the numbers are correct.

usdm h22: 11.49:1
jdm h22: 12.37:1
type s: 12.89:1

your going to set your piston to deck clearance at 0 and use a total gasket thickness of .009 (that is actually your total piston to head clearance, .009 with the H23 crank/rods and H22 pistons when using a stock gasket) being that the H22 pistons stick out of the hole .017

try that, recalculate everything and see what you come up with

Also, the H22 head is 53.8cc's

Make sure you are working with the correct dome volume cc as well, you cant always believe what you find on the web

usdm h22:11.58:1
jdm h22:12.37:1
type s:12.89:1

are all h22 pistons the same height just with different domes?

not much changes except for the usdms.....how would there be a difference in the calculations...that got me a little confused.

i thought he said h23 block and head thats wy i put 50 cc's....

Same compression heights with different dome volumes, yes

Just make sure you have the correct dome volume, theres a lot of info I found on the web regarding dome voumes that turned out to be incorrect

i was referring to a h23 block and h23 head .

also, i know some pistons are pressed/floating wrist pin, but which motor would i find each piston in ? i am not sure which ones are which .

udsm - h22a1/4 ??? different wrist pin, but are they the same piston ?
jdm - ???
type s - ???

h22's have different pins from the h23.....they are all different pistons with different domes and such.....h22 pistons are also the height...

You're a funny guy. Here is the thread https://honda-tech.com/zero...age=5

and here is my post at the end with the reason why I locked it, and that I said you can start a new one with all the information:

Starting another thread about an identical topic would be cluttering the forum

Like I said Joel I dont care, Im over it. There are better things to do than bicker about dumb ****... you agree?

I just want to help out where I can around here

No. A new thread, clean with all the info at the beginning would have been great.

You are obviously not over it, ignorant of my reason for closing the thread, and I'm trying to figure out why you are on this board again considering you're banned...let me check into that...

you are correct, I am banned and will be again shortly... I just want to help people out, there are a couple of threads I wanted to post some info in so I went ahead and posted in... Im not causing any trouble and havent for quite a while on this board...

And thats fine, you explained yourself which is what I wanted in the first place. It would have been nice to be able to talk to you months ago about it, there probably wsouldnt be any animosity going on either.

Sometimes people jsut need to work things out and put differences aside..

but anyway, back to being banned

You weren't banned for helping people, and you know that. It's unfortunate when good contributors have to be banned for other behaviour. You're not causing trouble because we aren't allowing it. Feel free to be helpful until you're gone again, I don't have the privs to ban you personally, and never did.

Back to the thread.

So if Type S pistons are used, then the block needs to be sleeved....if the pistons are A or B, they are the same height as the H23 pistons, right? According to the Honda service manual, they are. Am trying to get everything in order to do H22 head on my H23 block. When I remove the H23 head, I want to put in new pistons, rods, bearings, etc. before putting on the VTEC head. Basically just trying to do the basics....read over (many times) the H23 FAQ's, but did not really find the answer if the pistons are the same height... really not trying to create a high perf. racing machine...just something faster than stock, but not overly expensive. Can anyone recommend pistons that are not too overly expensive, but not OEM? thanks!

topline makes a stock replacement piston and you wont need to resleeve your block, but its still a cast piston

you can get Type-S pistons that are stock bore or .25 overbore.

stock bore = no sleeving

.25 overbore = sleeving
