When I put my ring gear on my Quaife I just took an old cut timing belt and nailed it to the leg of my shop table (4x4). Then I wrapped it around the gear about 1.5 -2 times so that when torquing the bolts the belt got tighter. It is ghetto but worked well.

What are you doing that you need a ring gear holder? Is the crank pulley off? If not, use the crank bolt to prevent the flywheel from turning.

i usually use a long angle iron with 2 holes drilled in it, so i bolt the angle iron to the flywheel with a pair of pressure plate bolts. that way i i have great levereage for breaking the flywheel bolts loose.
