Default Electrical wiring - Power outlet, fogs, etc. (need help on plan)

I'm planning to wire my fog lights to my power outlet (cig lighter). Reason is that I want to be able to have the lights turn off when I turn the key, if I forget to flick the switch.

I got an adaptor to plug into the power outlet, so I can unplug it and use it for other things too.

Questions:

1. The current is all the same, right? No matter if it come directly from the battery or the power outlet.

2. How can I tell which is Positive and Negative if from the adapter?

3. What happen if I swtich it (+/-) will I blow somthing up?

4. Do I still need to ground the fog light if the current comes from the power outlet?

Thanks

4. I would ground the fog light anyway.....why do the B series get ground if the battery has a ground ??? Exactly.

3. Yes, you have a chance of blowing something.....chances are it will be the fuse.

2. Don't use the adapter, splice into the cigarette lighter wires in the back....keeps the looks clean.

1. The current is 12v on the cig lighter......on some of the wiring there will be resistors and other things that will modify the current for the specific device that is being powered.

IMO, wire the cig lighter to the switch that came with the foglights by splicing the wires behind the cig lighter, that way you can use the cig lighter for something else (just make sure the fogs are off). Ground the fogs somewhere in the engine bay.......Run the ground to the battery ground. Also, make sure you know how many amps the fogs are gonna use, cannot be more than 10 unless you replace the cig fuse with a higher amp.

Good luck and TAKE YOUR TIME!!!!
