I was wondering what the diferences between a D16y5 and a D16y8 are

Transmission Geared for Performance

Those are the basic differences.

What kind of parts?

 

rods, Pistons, Cams, intake manifolds, header ect.

 

They'll all "fit", but they arent all the same, and I believe some may require rewiring stuff, etc.

 

should i just put an ex computer, harness, and trans in it

No. There is no point in having an ex ecu and harness if you dont have the Ex head. Look into doing a Mini-me.
