This is a "NEW" Question about swaps in 88-91 EF's
hey whats up yall, well i've been thinking about this swap for awhile now and all my friends say Its stupid, Its Gay, Your Dumb. well anyways i was thinking about taking the "B21B?" out of the 88-91 Prelude Si's its a DOHC 2.1L non v-tec motor and they are already obd0 so there shouldn't be to much to mess wiht, and i think all you should have to do is get some hasport B-Series mounts and a cable B-Series Tranny and i think maybe i mite be able to use my Si harness in my car. this mite be an easy swap but who knows, so i just wanted to know yalls inputs so let me know what yall think
?
?
?
?
that motor is not the best building platform. I guess if your doing it to be different, then it maybe worth it. I'd rather buy a b18a or b20 if I was going that route.

first off you will have to find someone to make custom mounts for this engine... second this engine is a lot heavier than any of the other b-series engine... and last this is just a bad engine platform to start..
im not saying its not possible, but IMO you are better off getting another engine

from what i heard the motor in the prelude even though it's block # is b whatever
it has nothing in common with the b16 etc. its got more in common withe the f series motors if i'm not mistaking wich means it would probalbly be just as hard to do an h22 without the power or parts availability

Yeah, it's a "B" engine in name only. It's not really part of the B16/B17/B18/B20 family most people are familiar with. Same way with the '84-'87 Civic/CRX "D" engines. Sure, they're D-series... kind of... but they don't really match up or swap out with much (except the 1G Integra's D16A1).
There's a reason no one does this swap (old Prelude engine into CRX/Civic) or talks about it: it's not a good swap. If you're going to go to the trouble of DOING a swap, you want to actually gain something by doing it, other than the experience of just doing it. These engines made - what? - 130hp on a good day? Why would you go to all the wiring/mount/fab/tranny/exhaust headaches for a measly 130hp, when you could do a simple ZC drop-in using all your existing mounts/tranny/wiring/exhaust, etc, with a couple simple wiring changes, and get the same power? The reason people do swaps isn't just to do them or to be different; it is because there are better drivetrain options that offer more power for a given amount of money. The ZC swap used to be very common, then the B-series swaps started to take over, and now the K-series are starting to happen. In each case, there are specific gains to be had relative to the amount of work and money spent. ZC = pretty cheap, for not a big gain. B-series = a little more money for a good chunk more power. K-series = a LOT of money for a TON of power.
Know what other swap I never hear people talking about? An '86 Ford Escort engine into a CRX. Maybe you don't hear people talking about it because it's just not a good idea... But if you REALLY want to drop a Prelude B-series into your car, go right ahead.
