Default Selecting an engine 88' CRX

ok i am looking into getting another engine. i have a zc right now but i want more. i originally was thinking of a b18, but then a friend told me to go b16 because when you build it up, it is better then a built of b18... he said the 16 you could do more with it. but then i hear about gsr's and type r's. and im not sure. im lost in the engine world. i want some good power. i want to take anyone off the line, + when im in 5th gear on the freeway when i lam the gas i want to feel the pull.... any sugguestions?

I like low-end power and torque so I would get a b18a/b over a b16,b18c,or b18c5 any day..I dont like to wait for 5200rpm for something to happen..They're good motors but I'm bias towards the b18a/b.

And a b18a can be had so cheap now and you can use the extra money you didnt spend to build it up or whatever..

Well since money isnt really a problem for you, then I would do a Turbo LS, or turbo b20 if you want a lot of power.

u know wut... i actually agree more with that idea than ls-vtec, not to big on the b20 bottom end... an Ls however would in many ways DELIVER!

funny b16 cant take a b18 off the line, it will leave it tho in 2nd or 3rd gear; LS VTEC is the way to go, it has both hp and tq.... but you are giving up something engine reliability and your rod/stroke ratio.....

If you have the money for a b16b, you're better off getting an ITR engine.

b18,b20 if you going to build it really does not matter becuase they will be the same when you sleeve it.....and just add boost

I say go with the b16. I got one in my hf.....nothing but declicousness. I would even go as far to say that the b16a Is "scrumptrulcent." There is SO much **** that you could do with any b series motor.
B18c - you got the torque and it repsonds to bolt ons well.
b16a - the high reving sibling
ITR - You get the name and the 2c notes of power behidn it
CTR - all the power of the ITR minus 20Hp/ lbft

Theres mods you can do to get more power out of them it just depends on the craftsman ship and the product you get.

Cams, Gears, Pistons, Rods, Valvetrain, Tranny.
All of these will = more power it just depends on you
But my dream setup would have to be.
B18c5
Toda racing parts
P&P
9:1 Pistons
t3
4-2-1 header
Eclipse Sidemounted IC
Aem/Injen/DIY CAI

^-----god damn if you know what i'm taling about we are such dorks i just cranked out that off the top of my head.....

How can you have a 4-2-1header and a CAI with turbo? And you prefer to have a small *** smic instead of a fmic?

I hope that guy was joking..

He wants a built b18c5 with a small *** turbo and an intercooler good for maybe 220hp..
And on top of that he wants a 4-2-1 header and a aem intake.. ..

Must be that new all motor turbo b18c5 I heard about..

Once again I hope that was a joke..

One problem with all these suggestions:

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">i want to take anyone off the line, + when im in 5th gear on the freeway when i lam the gas i want to feel the pull</TD></TR></TABLE>

If you want to be able to take ANYTHING off the line, you're starting with the wrong car, and it's driving the wrong wheels. I know, I know - the fastest FWD drag cars are into the 8s, etc., etc. Yeah, but the fastest RWD drag cars are into the 4s! You can make a Honda a really quick car... for a front-drive car. But anytime you have to qualify a statement like that, it's already got problems. By and large, it's easier to make a RWD/AWD car quicker off the line than it is a FWD car; it's a matter of weight transfer.

I'm not hating on Hondas or anything else, but if you want to take everyone you come across off the line, you'd be spending your money smarter by going RWD. Snag an old Rustang and mangle dat bitch - for under 5 grand you'll be smokin' anything you're likely to run across.

Just throwin' it out there.

Mike
