Default Open Downpipe. What Are The Noise Levels Like?

Just looking for some people that are running boost with an open downpipe

I plan on running high boost on a single cam and was thinking of doing a side exit exhaust with a cherry bomb resonator style muffler to tone it down, but I can save a good bit of money if I just fab up a 3" downpipe

Even now Im running just a header with the cherry bomb resonator and the car is loud as **** and if I take it past 3k it sounds like *** (but I dont take it high because I have 8-9psi oil pressure lol)

What are your guys thoughts/opinions on how loud it is just mopping around town, you get stopped alot for it?

Thanks

I would think that it would be about the same as open header. The only difference is that it would be routed though the turbo making it a tad quiter but I think it would still be louder than ****.

Its going to be pretty damn loud. It sounds cool but it gets on your nerves after awhile.

Well I ran it without a downpipe for 10 miles, just so I could have one fabbed up. It was ridiculously loud. I would highly reccommend getting one hooked up ASAP.

If anything...running open down pipe i'd at least put a hi flow cat in there, and fab up 3" pipe after it, then run it side exit...it'll muffle the sound quite a bit, but not hinder performance as much as a cherry bomb exhaust might....you also will still have a deeper tone with the hiflow in there as opposed to just running a cherry bomb style and gettin a little higher pitch...at least as i've learned from experience

(From a guy who ran open downpipe, with a hi flow cat and didn't get pulled over once with a 4AGE corolla )

The cherry bomb actually sounded dam good n deep for a $30 muffler, then I smoked a speed bump and exhaust literally ripped inhalf after the resonator and thats what Im runnign with now

But does it even sound good? Open downpipe...?

I thought everyone running OD liked the sound... no?

Its way too loud to drive around with...even with my 3" with resonator and straight through muffler I still get people turning around with that "what the **** is that?" look on their face.

I ran open downpipe for a day and it seriously was ridiculous. I cant imagine if you live in a strict area that you wont get pulled over consistently.

i'm running open pipe and its not too bad... although i have it extened all the way towards the axle back... i think its quieter than those fartcans.

the only time i get that look is when they hear the turbo spool up...

Lol... that reminds me of one of my friends. The only time when it sounds kinda crappy is when i'm decelerating at freeway speeds... it burps and gurgles really loud. I also did notice that once i tuned it really well it wasn't as loud as before.

when i ran open downpipe it wasnt loud at all.you cant even compare it to open header, when i ran open header it was 10 times louder than open DP

depends on your manifold too,not very much, but you can hear a difference

I'm running open downpipe on my prelude. It's no where near as loud as open header. Try open downpipe first then if you don't like it buy the cherry bomb or high flow cat.

I ran a open downpipe that exited right under the shifter. It was loud but not unbearable at all. I drove it almost a year this way and made many road trips over 500 miles in one day. Only thing I didn't like was the exhaust smell and on the long trips I would have liked it a bit quieter.

Best bet would be to get a $200 Kteller piping kit and run it to the back of the car. Even without a muffler it will keep the sound from bouncing under the car and keep you stink free.

Hehe I ran open o2 housing on my dsm. For some reason it wasnt louder then 3'' exhaust on my friends car. But when i was on it and wastegate opens then its loud as hell. I also heard many other cars gsr turbo, many dsm's, supras all runing open dp and they werent much worst then full 3'' exhaust.

You're right. I'm sure the way an open DP sounds has changed since last week.
