I know this sounds like a stupid question, BUT...I have GC coilovers with tokico shocks, the good rear camber kit from Ingalls, and that's about it. I just hear it on the inside of the car when I go over fairly harsh roadway, however the drivers side makes NO NOISE whatsoever on the same roadway. It sounds as if there is something loose on the car (I've tightened the bolts for the strut/coilovers on the inside of the car). Anyone know where I might look first? TIA

id check to see if the spring was placed in the strut correctly, theres a notch where the bottom coil should touch. theres also a 14mm bolt that holds the strut to the fork, check that too.

 

check the the 2 14mm tophat bolts holding the strut to the chassis in the trunk?

I'm curious if it could be a tie rod or steering rack problem

I'm sorry guys, it's the PASSENGER REAR that's making this noise...I'm an *** for not putting that...

To be honest, I wonder if part of the camber kit is loose. Keep in mind this is the better kit, not the shim kit.

I had the same thing on my OLD OLD OLD prelude (1986)... everything was tight, so I just assumed it was a broken/shrunken bushing.

 

I have an easy thing you can try out...

Jack up the car
Place it on jackstands
grab the offending tire/wheel
wiggle it left to right
wiggle it up & down
If you get any play or noise, find were it's coming from (easiest with a friend)

 

My car makes the same noise too at low speeds going over little bumps, I just delt with it. But if you figure out your problem please keep me posted.

I will try that today, I didn't have anyone to help me over the weekend, but good suggestion, thank you sir.

I will, I'm going the friend help route this afternoon, and if that doesn't work, I will be taking back to the shop that did the install on the camber kit six months ago. I will keep you updated though. Thanks guys.

well my drivers side rear coilover did this too. there are some set screws on the sleeve to hold it in place. at least on mine there is. well they fell out so when i hit a big bump the sleeve and coil would move enough to have a gap and then slam back into place. so if there are set screws on the set you got check those.

 

Ok all of you that wanted an update:

This morning I went to my VERY WELL TRUSTED suspension/front end guy and had him check this problem out after he did my rotate/balance/alignment.

What it seems to be is that the GC spring for the coilover (inspected and installed correctly btw) has more play/suspension travel on the rear passenger side. We jacked the back end up and found the spring was a bit more loose on the passenger than the driver's side. I would have thought that they would have about the same amount of travel? Who knows, anyway, I'm happy to know what the problem is and that it's not something major.

If anyone has a fix for the travel issue, hit me up. Maybe it's just the way it is, I dunno...
