D16Z6 transmission problems/questions
So, it looks like I'm gonna need a new tranny for my '93 Del Sol Si. The noises I'm hearing are a rattling sound that stops when you push in the clutch, and a metal on metal grind that just recently started. The shrill grinding can still be heard even at highway speeds. We thought it was an idler pulley, but it's coming from the opposite side of the engine bay. No noise can be detected in the engine itself, but the tranny sounds like a pack of church mice running around, squeaking, until most of stops when you push in the clutch.
What other tranny's bolt up to the D16Z6? I know of a guy who put some sort of Acura tranny on his, because the gear ratios are supposedly better suited for our engines...? Any clue what I can do?

Only D-Series transmissions bolt up to D-Series blocks. Only "upgrade" you can get is a D16Y8 transmission off a 1996-2000 Honda Civic EX. They have the same ratios BUT stronger shift forks than the 1992-1995 D16Z6 transmission.
Unless you can shell out cash for custom gear ratios and gear box built by http://www.gear-speed.com, that is your only upgrade.
