I made 300whp on my sohc, always used stock tranny and axles. Never broke an axle, trannies would start grinding once in a while, but at least sohc parts are cheap and plentiful.

I ran stock axles and had a kaaz diff in my old car. I would pop diffs once in a while before I got the diff. I would buy a Quaife now, at that time, the quaifes were $1200-1300 and the kaaz was $800.

I run stock in mine also. Only broken an axle once and one Diff. But I will be using the new Enjo D-series axles this year and am having a spool made.

go with the Z6 either way. boosted or NA. the gearing is still superior.
