Polishing my rims
I am a polishing newbie. If you guys can break down EACH step with specifics I would appreciate it. I will be just as specific to help anyone who knows less than I do.
When I purchased my gsr my rims looked like this:

My g/f curbed my rims and I thought it would be a good idea to paint them. (I didnt know about polishing.)

To get the paint off I used aircraft paint remover/stripper (I forgot the name) After I got some sand paper and decided to polish them. I started with 400 then went to 600 then to 1000 then to 2000. I have never sanded anything before so the way I did it was a got a pail of water, dipped a piece of sand paper in there and scrubbed at the rim until it was smooth and even. When I finished the rim looked like this.

Here is a close up

After that I got some mothers aluminum polish and spread it out over one of the spokes. Then I got this electric drill and put a polishing wheel at the end of it. I went over the spokes with back and forth motions and cleaned the wheel often until the spoke shined.
I have the polishing compounds (the brown, red, white and black) but I am not sure how to use them. Is there any way to get them to look better? Do they look decent now?

how is it nasty? Granted they do not look like they did stock but keep in mind there is no clearcoat on them. I appreciate negative opinions but please back them up, dont just blurt out ****.
The purpose of this post was to see if anyone could give me detailed instructions on how to use the red, white, and black polishing compounds.

(7:11 PM 1/6/2005) BlackSage: if I knew I was doing it wrong I would not have done it. Enlighten me please
(9:17 PM 1/6/2005) BoostedJeff: when i polish things, you cannot see swirls or grit marks, that is all I am gonna say, not here to argue
(9:22 PM 1/6/2005) BlackSage: im not trying to argue. The point of my post was i dont know what I am doing. So you think I should sand better probably. Thanks for the info
(9:28 PM 1/6/2005) BoostedJeff: yeah, start with a grittier sand paper, then move down to medium, then fine, then ultra fine, then wet sand with the ultra fine. then, when you have a somehwat nice finish, get Mothers metal polish, and use that. Trust me, it works wonders
He is a good guy.
