I have always been interested in an autopower, but I have "heard" that when it comes down to the function its not the best way to go, I dont know if its the welds the strength or what but for actual racing people frown on it. But at the same time this could be HT rumors, you know how it goes people talk about things they have never used had or done themselves and then more people start speaking that as fact..

Anyone have any real insite?

A buddy of mine in Louisiana has one bolted into his prelude. All I have to say is that it looks sweet. I can't wait to get one for myself.

Hey we have group buy going on now for autopower bars and cages. Check it out hthttp://tp://www.honda-tech.com...05047

Bolt in is really only good for the street but they do add safety and easy install for the DIYer.

Dang, I thought I was going to be buying it for some use b/c i really like to auto-x as well as getting out on the track when I can (and can afford it).

I can see how some might buy it just because of "sweet looks", but I was just trying to give the original poster an idea here.

i dontnthink its the wends, from what i kinda remember the tubing diameter is kinda on the small side...plus its a bolt in...like a 4pt tie down, so doesnt do that much for the chassis...would be great for a harness bar

i believe it was my car he was referring to. i have a 4 pt autopower bolt in cage. i use the car to autox at least 20 events a year. I also have a long list of HPDEs that I have participated in the past also.

The tubing diameter is something like 2.5" thick. Its not thin tubing. If you were to have a custom cage made for the car, they would use the same type of tubing.

As far as chassis rigidity is concerned, my rollbar has significantly increased the rigidity of my chassis. The car body acts as a more complete unit when rotating. Granted there would be more rigidity introduced if I had a 6 pt cage, but the rollcar added more stiffness than any set of tie bars could. And I dont think the integrity of the piece is degraded by the fact that its bolt in rather than weld in either.

I think the piece is an excellent option if you are interested in doing some lapping days and/or HPDEs. I dont think its really necessary for autox since the prelude isnt nationally competitive in any class it fits into. And its definately not a sufficient option if you want to get into wheel to wheel racing. For that, you need a 6 pt cage and I recommend getting that welded in.

I can get some pics of the bar later today.

The Autopower cages aren't as bad as everyone makes them out to be. And yes, the weld-in cages are better than the bolt-in cages, but the bolt-in's are still really good at protecting the driver....plus you can still remove it.

There's been a few ricers locally that bolted in just the rollbar into their Hondas/Acuras to be cool.......jeez.

Right from the horses mouth. Thanks NB!

FYI diameter is either 1.75" or 2" with wall thick at .120, exactly what the SCCA GCRs recommend for cage thicknesses.

And the bars are SUPER COOL LOOKIN' TOO!!!

daily driving a car with a roll cage scares me.

i don't want to drive a caged car without a harness + a helmet. i know some cage designs are safer than others for use with regular seatbelts but i've seen alot of people with cages just a few inches away from their head. no amount of bar padding is gonna save your brain from being splattered all over the cabin when you hit that thing with kind of energy an accident can produce.

Well the full package is way safer your right. However you are always just a few inches away from steel when you in ANY vehicle. Steel covered by plastic or padding.

ask my Mom how she felt after a car creamed her drivers door going fifty. Oh yea you CAN'T...she's DEAD because of that... people die driving all of the time... 40,000+ every year in the USA alone...

We are not safe ever in our vehicle but roll Cages and bars always help. If you have a cage/bar though you HAVE to pad it everywhere. Street car /race car it does not matter but cages and bars do make you safer AND you can add the 4+ point seatbelt, wwwaaaaaaaaayyyyyyy safer than the wimpy 3 pointer that most of us ride around in...

4 pointer seatbelt systems all the way. I have 5 pointer systems with FIA belts starting at just $610 four BOTH front seats.

It all starts with the roll bar here https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1105047
