quarter panel rust fixing
how hard do you guys think it would be to get some good quarter panels from the states shipped to me here in Canada (Most of them are in bad shape over here...) I mean i dont need the whole quarter pannel, but mainly a cut-out of it. Like maybe 6 inches in from the whole wheel well to the lights... it'll kinda look like a question mark shape if you understand what im trying to say !?!?!
thanks,
Joey

that's custom work bud. You can't buy anything but a new shell and throw all your stuff in it, that has to be cut out and custom bent and put back in, welded and repainted. Good luck.
Good luck finding a little peice like that. That whole panel is one peice and has to be welded in. You can get a new one from Honda for around $300 or possibly cheaper from a junkyard...
ya right i wish it was only 300$ from Honda!!!
Called a friend who works at honda and gets us a club discount and its 700$ (US) EACH quarter pannel
Thats 1,400 just for the parts, imagine the install and painting. Wow!
with the paint and everything i coule be looking at about 3,500$ just for the back of the car

Perhaps I'll enlighten you, then>>>>http://www.hondaautomotivepart...PANEL
Looks like $333.80 to me. Your friend sucks at his job.
edit- Maybe it's the $400 one, I'm not totally sure, but you could call and find out pretty easily.

ya the left one is 420, and the right is 527$
Damn the salt and **** that comes along with living in Canada
I wonder how hard it would be to find some quarter panels from the states (junkyards)

I didn't see those prices anywhere on the site. Is that with shipping or what?
I'm sure you could find some in a junkyard with a few phone calls

how bad is the rust? pics? I am pretty sure you can get it fixed with out cutting the entire pannel off, I think a shop can sand it all off and bondo it or something.
take it to a body shop first and see if they can fix it, but if they cant, i can almost guarantee it would be cheaper and smarter to just get another rear quarter panel from either ebay or hondaautomotiveparts.com
it seems like replacing the panel is way too much $$.
if the rust portion is not too bad, i suggest using some rust bullet, (http://rustbullet.com/ProductCart/pc...source=froogle) then use a filler like bondo where needed and paint over it. this seems like a more cost effective way.
rust bullet pretty much stops the rust from spreading (wish someone would make something like this for cancer) and i have used it personally on my sunroof panel of my 4g and it has been over a year with no problems.

I THINK A FEW OF US HAVE THIS RUST PROBLEM FOR MINE I'M GOING TO CUT OUT ABOUT 6-8INCHES AROUND RUST GET SOME SHEET METAL AND THEN SHAPE AND WELD IT IN THE SMOOTH OUT WELDS AND BONDO IT. I'LL HAVE TO DO THIS ON BOTH SIDES AND THEN I'M GOING TO REPAINT THE ENTIRE CAR IN MY GARAGE.
Like others have said cutting and replacing w/sheet metal is good. Remeber to use some rust retard around the remaining non- rusted quarter panels. If you cannot weld then rivet the sheet metal piece in. Last step is to apply some filler , grate, sand, prime and then paint. It is not very hard any basic auto body book covers these steps. Only thing that may take some time is sanding, you have to use many different grits and you want the final product to be smooth not showing any sanding lines or bulges. I went to auto bodyschool for $375 for a six month course a few years back and I workd on my 89 teg's quarters the final product looked great with riveted sheet metal and paint but I did not use the rust retard. The rust came back in 6 months. The rust retard will increase your chances to stop the rust 70%. For bigger jobs new quarter panels are needed. I spent a good 25 hours on my attempt about 9 of that was on sanding. I hate rust too
!
!
wyeah sanding sucks and takes alot of time but must be done properly if you want it to look good i use to drive a tow truck for a body shop and one of the guys down there spent a lot of extra time working on his own projects and he showed me how to do body work i painted a eclipsei use to have that had a lot of rust. and my buddy is a damn fine welder and he taught howweld but i'm going to have him there when i do it just in case.but i know how to do body work and prevent it from coming back but thanks anyways
