I have NO CLUE what exactly my prelude is?
ok i know i have a 4th gen h23 Si- thanks to all of you (and u were all soo nice)
by the way i'm a girl who wants to learn ALL about her car. so when i bought the car i knew i needed a radiator but for a few days until the radiator came it drove fine (until it finally blew a seal in the radiator) but driving it around for a few days the temp. gauge would go to the 1/2 way point until i got on the freeway then it would go down to the 1/4 mark- what is the "normal" temp. for this car?

93 is a 4th gen, and if your engine says VTEC on the top of it, you have a VTEC Prelude; otherwise, if it has no VTEC and is DOHC, it's an SI. If it has no VTEC and is a SOHC, then it's an S model.
The only VTEC lude that i'm familiar with is the H22, available in the 4th gens (rare) and all 5th gens.
He probably has an 4th gen H23, sporting 160hp and 156lb-ft. You can look under the hood to confirm this... it should explicitly say DOHC.
If it says SOHC, you've got a F22, with 135hp. I'm not sure if the h23 radiators will fit the F22, but it might.

Yeah, those 4th gen Preludes with the H22 are REALLY rare.
The best way to figure out what it is is to look at the number stamped into the block a little under the top radiator hose. F22 is the S, H23 is the Si, H22 is the VTEC.

I figure they aren't, but 90% of the 4th gen owners in my local area are sporting Si's.
Maybe it's just Louisiana.

I think most cars that rolled off the assembly line were originally S or Si models. When he said they were rare i assume he meant original.
About the original questions:
The others are right, if you have a Vtec 4th gen ( 92-96 model years) it will say Vtec on the valave cover, like this : http://www.prelude-fan.de/pics/g4-engine.jpg
If you have an Si, it will look like this: http://www.we-todd-did-racing....DE%3D
If your valve cover doesnt look like either one of those then you have an S.

I know what he meant, and they are most likely less common than the other models. I wouldn't necesarily call them rare, however. My experience comes from what I saw when I was looking to buy 4th gen. A very healthy percentage of them were original VTEC models.
Well, to answer your new question, the normal operating temp on these cars will show right in the middle of the temp guage. In your case, it seems to me that maybe your thermostat is stuck open or maybe was taken out.
By the way, instead of changing your first post, you should just put your new questions at the bottom. Most people don't go back and read posts they thought they had already read, so your question could go unanswered.
