Default Valve Lash Problems..

I have a 92 lude si, with about 130,000 miles on it. My problem is that occasionally (about once a month) I'll go to start my car after driving it for awhile and turning it off and it will fire up for a split second and die. Afterwards, it won't start for about 5 minutes. I have new spark plugs, wires, fuel filter, distributor cap and rotor, and just put a new timing belt on it. I have been thinking that it could be the valve lash, because the head is ticking really loud, and it has been performing poorly lately. A lot of times it will hesitate after shifting gears, and cut out when idling. Anybody think valve lash would be the culprit for it not starting sometimes cuzza the wrong air fuel mixture??

Do a search for "main relay" and see if maybe your main fuel relay is the culprit for your starting problems. Your valves may also be loose and need to be readjusted, but that seems like a separate problem.

I agree. Well since you need a valve adjustment anyways why dont you just adjust them and see if it helps (because either way you need a valve ajustment).

It's the gap between cam and rocker arm.

this is a n uber newb Question then: but why the hell do they call it valve-lash if it has to do with the rocker arm assembly and the cam lobes?

the lobes are opening and closing the valves via the rocker arm. to me the name means the distance between lobe and rocker arm that will shrink down to nothing once the car heats up.
lash just sounds cool is why

Hehe, ok, so I have a fairly low mileage h22a4 but I think that it might be due for a valve-lash adjustment because the valve train makes a shieza load of noise. Could this be the problem? Everything on the motor sounds perfect but when you rev it up a couple thousand RPM with the hood open the motor gets annoyingly loud for a honda. I wish I had a good quality way to record how it sounds, someone could diagnose it in a heartbeat.
