Default Worn clutch, 100K... Please Help!

I don't normally beat on my car, but today I kind of dumped the clutch hard in first. I was fully expecting the tires to spin as they have done before in this car, but all I got was clutch slippage. I know it was slipping because the RPM stayed the same and speed increased slowly. Plus I dropped hard into second, the car would normally jerk, instead... slippage! I recognize the awful smell (like burning skin.)

Anyways, how hard would a clutch be to change in my driveway? I've never done one on a Honda before. I've swapped out trannies, but never a clutch with the tranny in the car. Is there enough room to change it without pulling the tranny right out? BTW, it's a D16Y8 engine and tranny, 100K on the original clutch.

Also, could I trust an OEM replacement from Ebay?

Thanks,
Alex

A) It would seem through all the application charts I've come across, they always group the 1.6L 92-00 Civic clutches together - so yeah, they are all the same.

B) You will most certainly have to drop the tranny in order to replace the clutch.

C) Don't know too much about the e-Bay clutches so I'd suggest searching some more for that answer but you may want to hit up the "Sponsor Marketplace" and see if anyone is running specials right now (more than likely there is one going on).

Everyone has already answered your ?'s about the clutch being the same and dropping the tranny to replace it.

As far as where to get the clutch, I got a replacement OEM clutch from Clutchmasters awhile back for $150 shipped, with pilot bearing, throwout bearing, clutch disc, and pressure plate. A pretty good price if you ask me.

They sell Exedy clutch kits on Ebay. I bought mine from them this morning for $120 shipped. Great deal! Any opinions on the performance/longevity of the Exedy clutches?
