AC just makes the air cold
air will blow on your window but not very cold air
try blowing the air in your car with the AC off
thats what it will feel like

yeah me too it works just fine w/o it

using a/c to defrost your window just makes it faster.
so the answer is that without a/c of course you can defrost your windows, just it will happen gradually as opposed to the quick defrost when using a/c

a/c mainly helps out because its colder and colder air holds less moisture, so the wont fog up as much. it will still defrost with no ac, but it wont get rid of any fog or anything on the inside as well.

And once you defrost with A/C, you will never want to live without it. My first few cars didn't have A/C, and it was always a bitch to defrost. You have to crank the heat like mad, and it was almost impossible to drive in a hot / humid summer T-storm.
Now with A/C, I can defrost at any temp, in any weather. It's an Air Conditioner, not Air Cooler; it conditions the air by removing moisture which helps defrost the windows.
I don't like A/C, never use it in the summer unless I'm in a suit, and always drive with the windows down. But I will never buy another car without A/C again for the defroster effects.

if u take your ac out and you end up wanting to sell the car, how hard will it be to put back in?

MUCH easier defrosting with a/c.
I'm the same as EX_autoXr, I've had AC in all my prior cars, but I've never used it besides defrosting, or unless its 95+ and humid out, otherwise I just rock the windows down, I cant stand not getting fresh air in a car, always gotta have the window cracked at least.
Putting it back in? Probably harder than pulling it out.

i've gotton used to life w/o A/C. the best way to defog your windows is A/C on and temperature set to Hot. w/o a/c, it just takes longer to defog. don't remove the evaporator from under the dash though. it's an integral part of the blower ducting.

You are exactly right.
All my friends are like 'my car will never defrost' and I always say 'turn the a/c on and it'll go away almost immediately'.
and the typical response is 'I don't want the a/c on..it's cold outside!'
People are idiots.
Turn the temperature to hot (if you want it warm), set it to defrost, turn the blower up high, and make sure the a/c is on. The foggy windows just disappear immediately.
As a matter of fact, I have never been able to defrost my windows without the a/c on unless I crack a window. It just doesn't work.
