Default b18 dissy on b16?

i bought a 2000 gsr dissy from a guy from h-i. from the ppl i talked to including him everyone said it would fit on my b16. they said it wouldn't probably line up to all the holes. my dad and i tried to fit it this morning and it wouldn't fit. infront of the dissy(towards the front of the car) there is a metal piece and it gets in the way. is there any way to tell for sure it is a b18 dissy? is it suppose to fit? i tried searching for this and i got nothing. i need help asap.

That is the VTEC Solenoid. There is no reason why your distributor should be hitting it. They are essentially the same thing, and mount the same way(B series). I guess you could have gotten a wrong distributor, or you are just installing it wrong.

All 1992-1995 B-Series VTEC distributors are identical, and all 1996-2001 B-Series VTEC distributors are identical.

Actually the bases themselves from 1992-2001 are all identical if they are B-Series VTEC models - you might have gotten a B18B non-VTEC distributor.

...or you're not lining the distributor key up right with the camshaft - that's the only way the correct VTEC dizzy wouldn't fit right.

well the person i bought it from said it was off of a 2000 GSR. it looks like the only way it will fit is if it cut off one of the metal arms that one of the bolts go into so it won't bump the solenoid.

if i take a pic of the dissy i bought..would you be able to tell me which one it is? anything i should look for?

would it be safe to say its an LS dissy since it doesn't fit b/c i have vtec? if so will it still work if i cut off one of the arms that holds the bolts?

Something to mention is that all the bases are the same, but the distributor caps are different.... OBDII GSRs use a wider cap, but I think the OBDII SI uses the same cap as OBDI GSRs. correct me if I'm wrong..

Take a pic - I have a distributor brochure here that has numerous angles of every Honda/Acura distributor.

And no don't cut a mounting arm off. chances are it'll bolt up, but I seriously doubt you'll be able to adjust the timing like you normally would with the correct dizzy.

If possible, get the right DIZZY. I had a ghettod one on my CRX and I had nothing but problems with ignition.
