Default squeak squeak squeak goes the alternator belt

my alternator belt sounds like a mouse...but only for the first 15 seconds of my car starting for the first time in the morning.....unless it's really cold. if it's really cold it squeaks at me whenever i'm idle, but as soon as i push on the accelerator, it stops squeaking.

should i replace the alt. belt or just use that stuff you can buy at the store that apparently fixes this or wahtever (as you can tell, i have no clue what this stuff is called, a friend just told me about it)

You need to tighten you belt, if it's an old one replace it and then you will need to tighten that one occasionally after the install but the sound will go away in either case. What your friend was talking about was belt conditioner, you can try it but I would tighten it up a bit and see if that does the trick.

i thought it'd squeak all the time if it was loose? this just squeaks a little bit right away......will that still fix it? this belt has been around 177K miles now....is this a belt i need to worry about breaking?

Double-check the tensioner. Sounds like it's not tightening up right away. And yeah, I would check the belt to make sure it's not too old.

And belt dressing sprays are only temporary....and not really healthy for your pulley/belt

yeah i've heard they don't really do ****. i did replace the alt about 7K ago, but it just started doing this....

original belt, 177K -- is it worth it to tighten it or should i just re-do the whole belt? I don't know how reliable alt belts are in hondas.....

if it only squaels when you starty in its just cuase the motor is cold ...did this start when it got cold out ..if so youve probly got the heat on and mabye the rear defogg..this puts strain on the alt and is harder for the motor to turn it ..in turn the belt is the weak point and will slip
