Alternator bearings going up?
I have a '92 stock F22A1 that has been making high pitched whining/whoomping sounds when cold. Happens more so during extreme cold and mostly when being started. Sometimes I hear it in short bursts when warm. Its been going on a few years off and on (happening more often this winter) and happened before service at 180K when belts were replaced and afterwards.
Putting my ear on its sounds like its coming from the alternator. Spraying water on the belt stopped it enough to try and diagnose it--it then came back.
I'll be taking it in after 210k anyway. Reviewing documentation I noted there is a front and rear bearing. If the bearing(s) is going up, is that a serviceable part at the dealership or would they advise on a new/reman. alternator?

Had the same problem earlier this year, just bought a rebuilt one from autozone and installed it myself. one hour, 70 dollar fix. Super-easy DIY.
