Anything, as long as it has forged pistons and rods in it.

That's not true at all. The times in my sig were had on a completely stock Longblock!

If I was building a motor for boost, and was wondering what combo for high horsepower, I would definitely sleeve it so that I don't have to worry about it.
-Stock sleeves will only support so much and last so long under boost.

so basically everybody is gonna have their own opinion. i guess the best thing for you to do is research a little bit, and come to your own conclusion as to which motor you think would be best for what you intend to do to it.

If we are talking a complete stock block, possibly the best setup would be a B17A. It has a better rod ratio than the LS, GSR, B20, or D16 motors. This helps to reduce sleeve-cracking side loading (which can be significant on motors such as the LS or D16A). It has relatively low compression (9.7:1). And it has the overall stoutness of a VTEC motor. The GSR motor is also pretty good. Its compression is a little higher (10:1). But still not astronomically high. And its rod ratio is almost as good as the B17A.

A VERY good custom setup would be to use a B17A crank in an 84mm sleeved B18C. This would give you roughly the displacement of the B18C with the rod ratio of the B16A.
