Adding Power locks on 7th Gen DX Accord
My girlfriend wants power locks added to her 2004 DX Accord. Does anyone what is needed and how involved this may be. I was looking at all the parts that are different between the EX and the DX from hondaautomotiveparts.com and it seems like there are only a few different parts from each door that are different. Has anyone done this? Any info would be appreciated. Thank!
Haven't done this but there are not only aftermarket "kits" that are made but I suppose you could just get the lx or ex parts and throw them in.
http://www.jcwhitney.com also has kits available too
.
But I think new cars now-a-days have a thing where it locks the doors automatically after going ___mph, something you may have to wire in.

If you can piece it together I would go with parts from a used car if you can find one or new one's. Switchs, actuators, and what not and you would have honda parts rather than aftermarket and may be cheaper. You should have the mounting points already, I believe all doors are the same within the same generation.
I was going to do the honda parts... its not that expensive. The only problem I have is finding out what I need as far as the electronics go such as relays and such. The other question is to see if the wires have already been placed.... this would make things much simpler. I guess the only way to find out would be to take the door panels off.
I would go aftermarket. I am manager of a car audio and security shop in Tennessee and I see honda factory door locks going bad all the time. I would use DEI (viper) door lock actuators part# 524N and install a keyless entry system or alarm. Most systems, all DEI, have ignition controlled doorlocks, so you will not need to have any switches or anything. These doorlocks will be operated with your remote, no switches to cut in, and they will last a long time. Doorlock actuator and labor should be anywhere from $50-80 per door, and basic keyless entries should start at $100 installed. Check your local stereo/alarm shop.
my friend owns a car audio place, he installed power door lock modules in this 99 civic hatchback, the kit cost like $50 max...and he bought the inside door handles from a LX or EX coupe, run some wires and bamm the civic hatchback got door locks.. hope it helps
Well, I work at circuit city so the labor is not a problem. The only thing I am wondering about is can those dei actuators work on a cable lock system. I guess the only way to tell would be to actually pull the door panel off and see where those actuators could be mounted.

The DEI actuators are designed to work with a rod-type door lock system, which is in your car as well as in 90 percent of cars out there. The only ones that don't are vacuum-type locks which are in mercedes, range rovers, and other german crap. But for you, these should work fine, mounting can get a little interesting, but I have not found a car yet that I haven't been able to mount these in.
