Default are high flow cats a waiste of time and money?

i have just added a cold air intake to my 97 vtec with a custom dual exhaust. people say i should add a high flow cat. at the time i'm not doing headers only because it seems that many people say that the vtec exhaust manifold is good enough. should i bother with the high flow cat? please advise .....i love this site. also, i live in new york.........will this put my "check engine " lite on. can't have that in new york any more, or it won't pass inspection. thank you

Same with a turbo. With an i/h/e combo it wont be much use, but making more power it will be quite useful. Expect 1-4 hp gain with high flow cat, 3-8 with test pipe. And that's at crank, so expect basicaly 1-2 hp at the wheels at the best.

I hope it's a V6 and not a 4 cyl, or you just LOST some performance.

You lose low end torque and you weigh the car down if thats a 4 cyl, the 4 cyl should get 2.5" single piping max

Any gain from the high-flow cat will be cancelled-out by your dual exhaust and the added weight of said exhaust. Also, if you want to make decent NA power, a good header is very important...

Congratulations then, you made your accord slower...

What V6 did they use? I doubt they used the J30 like on 6th gens?

I4's are faster off the line, and they handle better....honda just put in a v6 to compete with every other midsize family sedan having a v6 option

Yeah, just to satisfy those who don't know much about cars but are willing to pay $1-2k more because "v6's are faster." The only edge the v6 has over the i4 is the low-end tq.. but the i4 is better in every other way.
