code 14 (searched)
Im throwing a code 14 on my 99EK, and i know what it is.. but i DONT know how to fix it!!!!some people have said i prolly just need to clean it out and it should be fine. ive looked at pictures of what it looks like and where it's at, but they're all for b-series motors... so i have no clue what i am looking for. its getting REALLY annoying, so some help would be cool. thanks a lot.. and sorry if this has already been covered.. i didnt see anything. -Sheena.
Its in the same spot as the B series motor. remove the 2 12mm bolts.
take some Carb cleaner, or brakleen and spray it into the screen. give it time to dry. then reinstall
if it still throws the code then u may need a new IACV.

99EK is non-descriptive - What model Civic do you actually drive?
If you have a D16Y7, the IACV is not in the same place that B-series, or ever the D16Y8, places them.
On my 99 hatch, bone stock, the IACV froze up on me last winter. I went ahead and tried some carb cleaner (while the motor was already warmed up) and that seemed to get the job done - it hasn't come back to haunt me yet.
When it froze on me, the idle went to **** too - hunting around and acceleration was real jerky.

IACV is located on the back Of the intake manifold ( The thing on the back of ur Head Or Valve Cover) its got a plug/ 2 x Coolant Lines Attached. Undo The Plug/Coolant Lines Remove the 2x 12mm bolts Clean with carb Cleaner let dry and Should Be good 2 go.
Ray,
Ray,
EK means absolutely nothing to the US market - we have EJ's over here for our 6th gen Civics (and EM1 for the 99-00 Si).
Now that you mention you have a bone stock hatch, you have the D16Y7 motor which does NOT have the IACV mounted on the manifold; It is in fact mounted on the throttle body.
If you remove the upper air cleaner half and the air filter, you'll see a hole about the size of your pinky - it is this hole that you first want to try spraying some carb cleaner into. You're going to have to modulate the throttle in order to keep the engine alive so don't get finger heavy with the carb cleaner - just a 1-2 second spray....rinse, lather, repeat.
Make sure the engine is up to operating temp as warm gunk is easier to remove than cold gunk. I'd say use about 1/4 - 1/5 of the can and see where that gets you - thats about all it took for mine to unfreeze and stay that way till present day.

Here is what the IACV looks like. Now you know it's general location so find that, and remove the 2 bolts, and lines. Use a rag when you remove the lines 'cus you will lose some fluid.

When you remove it, you will see this...notice the dirty *** screen?

After a little carb cleaner, it should like this...

And if your feeling like a super hero, you might as well take off the bottom and check the gasket. You dont have to but hey WTF.

Goodluck Sheena. IM me if you got problems. You better be in school right now!

Does it look like that?
if it does clean it out, if it doesn't work ohm out the connectors on the plug, maybe the solenoid went to ****.
if it doesn't look like that it's a different IACV (3 wire). Clean that out too.
