thinking about getting a Greddy kit
i know greddy turbo kits arent all that and blah blah blah. i was thinking about getting a greddy kit because its alot less harassment from cops with e.o. carb numbers and i just want some simple boost. i had a revhard kit before and it kicks ***, but i just want some moderate boost for daily driving. of course, im going to add an intercooler and a blow off valve. i'll eventually save the greddy piping for legal purposes. do you think its worth it?
I had a greddy kit on my car two summers ago and blew a type r motor running that blue box. The blue box is the piece of sh*t. The kit is alright. since then I've seen a car on my schools dyno with a greddy kit and the car never ran richer than like 11.5/1. That sucks ***. Especially with the high compressions of the type-r's and the shi**y quality of pump gas. But the same car was switched over to a hondata and was right on stoch after tunning. So IMO the kit is ok for this reason please listen, I've seen what these greddy kit threads turn into. The kit will make you a every day driver that will be pretty quick and pass an emissions test. If that' what your looking for without any headach go for it, spend the money. The flaw of the kit is the blue box. Put it aside. Any car should be tunned and you simply cant do it with a blue box. You need to get something else. DONT GET ME WRONG it's not what I would do but that's not what I'm looking for. that wasn't the question.
I dont understad though the part about the cops. It's not usually the turbo that gets you in trouble with the cops. It's big bright front mounts, blow off's but mostly tinted windows and bad driving.

The kits aren't all that? Depends on what your point of view is. The build quality is great. The blue box works acceptably if you just want out-of-the-box performance. Both SOHC and DOHC kits run real world sized turbos for daily drivers with stock engines. The SOHC 15G peaks around ~240 whp which is more than most D16 guys have the guts for, and the 18T DOHC kits will do 350 whp.
Prices are also pretty fair on them, if you shop around. Just keep in mind the Blue Box is the first thing you throw away if you ever want more power.

yah whats the 18g putting out to make 350whp probably like 17-18 psi i run 10psi and make over 300hp daily. i wouldnt run the DOHC kit its maxed out at like 15 psi in my opinion
My, you're an idiot.
Go plot the compressor map, idiot, and tell me what the efficiency is at 35 lbs of airflow for, say, a GSR. None of this off the top of your head running your mouth about things you don't know anything about garbage.
Also, care to explain to me why 10 psig intake pressure, as compared to amtospheric, is superior to 18 psig intake pressure? Because, it's not. You compare MAP to TIP, not MAP to atmospheric, idiot, because scavenging is important - not "psi," or "V-Tech"

I have this kit on my gsr integra and it is nice for everyday driving im on 7.8 pounds with hondata and have no problems car is quick and feels good to me... I will be uping the boost when i build and also im running on 2.36 apex ws exhaust and made 237 hp so i think thats pretty good cant wait to up to 3ich exhaust and build my baby
I plan on doing the greddy kit eventually so I'll enlighten you with some of the things I have learned with all of the research I've done and help show it is worth it.
So we have people saying its **** with the bluebox, well don't listen to them. Greddy stopped with the bluebox a while ago. It now comes with emanage which is a much better setup and also is able to be tuned, of course not like a hondata system but it is a huge step forward over the bluebox.
Depending on what kind of motor you have, you'll either get the 15g turbo or 18g turbo. Since I don't know what you have I'll talk about what I've learned about with the b18 kits which come with the 18g turbo. It's smaller than the t3/t4 so you'll be spooled up quicker, most likely between 2000 - 3000 rpm's. Give or take a few 100.
The biggest limiting factor of the kit is the internal wastegate. Try boosting 15psi or higher and you will suffer some major boost creep. But you can still get some decent power out of the kits without having to go that high. Someone here, I forget who, was running a civic hatch with a stock ls motor with the greddy kit. He was pushing 300whp and running in the 11's with a full interior (don't remember if it was on slicks or not).
So for a street car/daily driver it is a great kit. Only really big downside is the price, because you can save a lot of money if you were to piece together your turbo setup. But then you wouldn't be carb legal now would you?

right on with the comment, guys. i wouldnt use the blue box at all. i would get hondata. only thing that sucks about buying greddy is the damn price. i can get a kit with hondata and an intercooler for the price of a greddy kit. once i find a deal on a greddy kit, im going for it. thanks for the info.

Just because your a Laker Hater Ill tell you what to get. Greddy of course the Blue Box is good for 14-16 PSI.
Honestley the Carb sticker could not be worth that much. The blue box sucks at any psi. it runs rich a$$ f**k and your gas mileage will be horrible. You could just pick up a carb sticker from a thread in the FI Classifieds.

Is it just me or did Greddy never produce a turbo kit for a Type R? I'm pretty sure the DC2 blue box is pre-tuned for .55 BAR of boost on a 10:1 compression motor. If you decide to be brave and run it on another motor with higher compression you deserve whatever happens for not using your brain.
The 310 injectors running the blue box at stock fuel pressure will run out of injector duty slightly above the stock wastegate setting of .55 BAR of boost. I'm not defending the blue box but it works well when used according to the the recommended boost level.
Gas mileage IS NOT horrible. It only goes rich when you're in boost. If you are not boosting gas consumption is as good, if not better, than stock.

I made 346 whp and 238ft/lbs at 16psi with a spike to 21psi on a highly modded itr. The internal gate will spike like crazy, beware. Also I was brave and ran the kit on my stock itr and yes I melted a piston. Live and learn, when I did that I didn't know the first thing about forced induction, I just wanted to go fast. Join the club of Greddy guys welding externals to their manifolds. I can't wait to tune for 20psi and see what happens.
Anybody think that 380 whp+ is possible? I do.

I hope your kidding about tuning a turbo motor to stoich!
And the greddy kit doesnt come with the blue box anymore, it comes with the emanage.

I need pics and links on how to do this.

I guess I should of explained more for the H-T. When I blew my itr it was over too years ago and then yes the blue box was what you got. And you are right about a few things. I used a kit designed then for a B16 I do believe. Mani's the same though so I said Fu#@ it. As far as the being way off trying it though your crazy. Today I bet theres ten people on this forum doing it and with good results. And some more info, Fuel pressure was raised, Aem rail , Ditched the 310's, and still boooooom. Plus I only ran 93 when it was at very mild boost, profect b. Any other time 100 cause I could get it around the corner. Higher boost though and it spiked like crazy. I'm in the welding the external club too. HaHa. As far as performance though tons of usable boost. Oh yea I drive a turbo D16 also for my beaterr.

Umm actually there is. Maybe if people read what I posted, I had already stated it doesn't come with the bluebox and that the emanage is a huge step over the bluebox. It is possible to actually tune the emanage. It isn't as good as hondata but it is compatible with obd-II and is still a ton better than the bluebox is. Try searching like I once did and you'll see what people have done with it.

Yes actually there is. Maybe if there was more real technical knowledge in this forum rather than bandwagoning constantly (such as the emanage sucks bandwagon, and most people that comment never even used one) in this forum.
