91 Accord EX Sedan Speaker Problems
I recently acquired a 1991 Accord EX Sedan and have noticed that the passenger front, and all rear speakers, only come on and stay on when the volume is up pretty high. Occasionally, when the speakers are at a lower level (sorry, I have no way to give you dB ranges of when they're in or out), the other speakers will come on when my front right tire hits a bump. Usually they just flicker on and then back off, but they have lasted as long as 5 minutes before going off again. I have no experience with electrical systems, but I want to do everything on this car myself. I am only 16 and just changed the oil on it myself yesterday and I would like to keep the streak going. I have not removed the door panel, but I have noticed (I think) that it is only attached with plastic nubs that can be pulled right off. I have not removed it completely. Could anyone give me any tips on how to remove anything correctly, what the problem might be, what to look for, how to fix it, etc.?
I would appreciate all help greatly.
P.S. Pictures can be seen here. http://community.webshots.com/user/arew84 (Ugh, teal. My only gripe with the car is the color, but I have given it the nickname the "teal terror."

If the speakers are cutting in and out when you hit a bump you may need to check all of them to make sure they aren't shorting out on something. Just go through all the speakers and make sure the terminals, or the wires, aren't touching anything. If that dosen't work, come back and we'll go from there
Ok, I have a 95 and I have taken the door panels off a few times. My grandma has a 93 and I think there are only a few differences with the removal that you should be able to figure out. You will need a flathead screwdriver and a phillips head screwdriver. On the door at a few places (where the doorhandle is and where you place your hand to open the door on my car) that have a plastic cover over a screw. You use a flathead screwdriver to pop these up and this will reveal the screw that you will unscrew. There will probly be a couple of these on your car, im not sure where but they are easy to find on most cars. Also another place that you might need to do is once you open the door, in the area that closes up against the dashboard normally, there is a small plastic circular piece that you simply need to pop off and take out. After this you remove the sail panel(the little black panel where the power mirror stuff is located next to the window). Then you will sort of pop the door panel bit by bit. It is attatched using a series of plastic clips that hold it in place. You will need to sort of force it a little bit. You should start at the top left of the door panel below the panel you removed earlier. You should be able to get your hands behind the panel at this spot. Then you should move down and try and pop off the plastic pieces holding it in place, once you finish the left side move down to the bottom of it and then do the rightside. After you have done this you should be able to lift the panel off, as you take it off disconect any electrical hanrnesses(maplite, powerwindows/locks, etc..)
Once again this is how it is done on my 95 but i think it will be fairly similar on your car and I hope this helps, let me know how it goes!

I agree with what Lostcb7 said. Just make sure that you don't have any exposed parts on the speaker wires, and make sure the connectors are tight. My brother's '90 has problems every now and again with this, and it's just the connectors coming loose from vibrations.
Sounds like you may have some broken/loose wires that are continually being disconnected. Go to the speakers that are breaking up and check the wiring. Twist the wires together and to make sure they stay togethter, wrap them with electrical tape. Hope this helps.
Okay, I tried to take it off today. I popped all the plastic things out (including the one on the upper left of the door), and took out both screws, but the panel still wouldn't come off. It is stuck on something around the top of the panel. Do I just pull it straight off, or is their a certain angle I have to do it at?
Also, how do I get to the rear speakers? Through the trunk?
Thanks for all your help so far.

Rear speakers can be accessed through the trunk...and you can fold down the back seats as well to do that. There is a lock you open on the same platform where the rear speakers are.
To remove the door panel on your accord. First remove the small plastic caps in armrest grab handle, bottom rear part of panel, and the slide out plastic clip on top corner of panel. Remove screws that were behind these. On some models, you need to remove the switches with a small flat head, unplug them by pushing in the tab in the middle of the plug, and then there is a screw behind these. Once all screws are removed, use a panel popper tool or a larger flat head screwdriver to pop out clips that are all the way around the outer edge of the door panel, once removed, pull up on the whole door panel to get top lip out from over the metal lip next to window. And your done.
Also to remove rear speakers, should be four, usually gold, 8 mm bolts on the bottom of the rear deck accessed through the trunk for each speaker. Remove these and the whole assemblies should be able to be removed from the top of the deck. Speakers are attached to these assemblies.

as for the top make sure the sail panel is off, there is a clip inside it that you have to undo, do this with a flathead screwdriver, it can take alot of messing with before you get it, after it is gone the rest of the door should lift up pretty easily

I forget to tell you about the inside door handle, there is a small cap that needs to be popped up. BE CAREFUL, this actually is not supposed to come off, it just flips out to give access to the phillips head screw behind it. Remove this screw and the whole door panel should lift off easily, disconnect any plugs for locks etc and set panel to the side.
also be careful when you are taking the door handle off, the cable hooks in to the back of the handle with this little plastic clip that can be broken easily, it would suck to not be able to open your door!
