Alittle Help Avoiding Theft
Well I know that if a theif wants your car that they are going to get it. I got my Si rims stolen off my car in my driveway on the only night that it has been out of my garage. But I just read an interesting article in the Feb Honda Tuning Mag(have subscription). In the article they talk to an ex-theif and he reveals some of things that they did when they stole cars. When you read it you will probably think it is common sense but he tells you stuff that you might take for granted and that they take advantage of. Since it doesnt come out for awhile ill try and sum it up for you.
First off most of you already know that the club is useless but he confirms it and says it only takes a couple seconds to get around the club. He also says that most alarms are not very good either because he always went out with multiple guys. So once they got inside one poped the hood another guys was waiting to disable the alarm. Then he said it didnt take long to strip the car. According to him it only took 45mins to drop the motor and the suspension out of the car. If they wanted the interior it took even less than that.
Then they continue by asking him how they found the cars that they targeted. He said that they targeted other clubs or people they would see at the races. But they also just drive around looking for more targets. I thought that this guy was pretty smart, he said they found a 4-door GSR they cased it for an alrm which there wasnt. So they stole the car took it to their safe place and left there for 24 hours incase it had Lojack. Go back if it was still there they took whatever they wanted wiped it downed and left it in some office complex.
Here are some anti-theif tips they give:
Start with a good alarm and pay alittle extra to have them mount the brain somewhere other than right under the dash.
Get a backup battery for the alarm.
Install an interior siren right under the dash.
Ditch the valet switch.
Have the starter kill, kill something else like the fuel pump.
Use battery termanials that require tools like an allen wrench to remove.
Find an alarm that sounds unique and not like everyone elses.
Get a removable hub and steering wheel.
Remove the ecu.
Hope this helps someone because I was really bored and found it kind of interesting. Most of you probably know this stuff but I was hoping that it would help out some of the newer h-t members. If this thread is in the wrong form feel to move it to where it needs to be but everyone is always talking about their cars being stolen so thought something might help. Check out the Mag I found it informative and I will not be bragging about my car to anyone or telling anyone what I have in my car and you should do the same but good luck.

Thank you I was just tring to spread some knowledge about how some thieves think. This doesnt mean that your car is safe but maybe it will help protect what we put our time, money and sweat into.

Jeff,
I've also had my slipstreams stolen off of my car, and 3 attempts from thieves of them trying to take my whole car. I usually take my ecu out everynight if my car is parked outside, i have the paging alarm system, and a few back up things
also, autlock has saved me as well! (autolock didnt work on my friends itr tho!) Anyways, the next thing to do is the quick release steering wheel!
Also, i tried PM'ing you back but it said you disabled your PM. Also, your email is hidden. Get back to me ih8ricerz@yahoo.com

Multiple sirens are always good. That way its nice and loud. Also get 4 different rim locks. Also if you live in a apt complex park near someones window, and have your headlights flash instead of your parking lights.
In NYC, you can get a ticket if your alarm is too annoying ... I guess that would mean - too loud, too long, etc. Other than that, the multiple siren idea sounds good.
At least I'm under the impression that is what is going on now.

I guess that could be but I dont think they would give you a ticket unless it constantly kept going off. And I never said that you needed to have multiple sirens. You just want an alarm that sounds uniqueand just doesnt sound like one of the normal ones. THe more unique it sounds the more likely you will get more people to look instead of just ignore it.
I recently got the Clifford g5 alarm. The alarm activates once the car is turned on. The alarm will activate after about 1 or 2 minutes and you will have to put in a code. If you don't put the code in within 60 second, the alarm will activate and the car will shut down completely. Think I'm lying? Ask the local dealership around my way because they didn't know how to shut off the alarm after I forgot to tell them the code (which can always be changed). The alarm also activates every time the door is opened. I love the alarm and know that there will always be a thief who will know how to get by them.
Props to the boys at Clifford
