Default Grounding large pieces ?

Just wondering what you guys are doing ? I have an exhaust here that needs to be welded but the grounding clamp will not go around the piping and there is nothing else for it to clamp on to.

lay the piece that you need to weld on a metal table and ground the table
make sure the metal is down to metal not painted
clamp it in a place on the edge where its just metal no paint and you will be fine
good luck !!!

i usually clamp the inlet or outlet. Or flange, or anything else. or just clamp on the table that you are welding on.

Don't have a metal table at the moment, but that is gonna be my next project. And I could not clamp inside the pipe because the only place was by the cat and tip and I did not feel that it would of been a good enough ground.

If you cleaned the metal it will be fine.

at work, when welding the attachment plates for gooseneck hitches,we just stick the ground clamp onto one of the spring perches.works great, even all the way on the other side of the car.i know that doesn't apply to your case, but my point is if you can find something even remotely close, and connected to your part ground-wise,you're fine.in the past i've also tacked the ground clamp to the piece i was welding-jut don't go crazy and make a tack you can't easily get to and knock off with a wizz wheel.

Thats what I ended up doing, well I wedge it in between the bolt and the pipe. And since it was touching the pipe it was good to go

Of course I tried first, what do you think I just looked at the freakin exhaust and said uhhhhh duh come on now. It was not really for this project but just to know in the future.

No hangers were on there, the muffler tip was to far away and is not metal on the one side, its coated with something.
