Default Help on testing alternator

I checked out the helms/haynes on doing this, but mostly it's just component check. Is there a way in using the voltmeter to test the alternator? Thanks.

16 is way too high.

it should be around 14-14.5 or so.

Or you could take it off, borrow a ride from a friend, and go to autozone were theyll test it for free, and i think they check the amps.

Unless you have an amp meter to test the current output of the alt, testing voltage will only tell half the story.
