My FAULT or BAD TRANNY??
okay i thought all gear oil where the same, anyways bought two quarts of valvoline 85w 140 gear oil. installed my tranny and 2nd gears like a mother, the tranny had no gear oil at all before i add the 2 quarts of the 85w 140...so i started searching and im suppose to use 10w 30 motor oil/Honda MTF or gm synchromesh .....my question is that is the cause of the grind most like the 85w 140? and how many qarts do you put in a b-series tranny after complete drain?? help me out guys
i have no idea what you use 85w-140 for..what did it say on the package??? just "car gear oil??"
but youre suposed to use manual tranny fluid like the honda mtf or gm stuff ive read are both good and regular motor oil in an emergency..
it sounds to me like you installed a new tranny, with this weird oil, and now it grinds..if you dont know if it grinded before than you really cant know if it is the tranny or the oil..

85w-140 is a super heavy duty gear oil, it is usually used in light commercial trucks and vans. It is quite a bit thicker than 10w-30 oil, usually 75w90 gear oil is close to a 15w-40 engine oil, so 85w-140 is even thicker. This gear oil could very well be the cause of the grinds (synchros won't operate well if the oil is too thick), but it should go away once you swap in some Honda MTF, 10w30, or another lighter weight oil (redline, syncromesh, etc). I doubt you did any permanent damage as long as you haven't been driving much.
The complete overhaul of a tranny usually takes 2.3 qts of fluid.

good ****, how do you do a complete tranny flush anyways i dont think i cant get all of it out with the autozone gear oil hand pump
I would just buy double the amount you need (~5 qts), drain and fill it once, drive around for 5 minutes, shift through all of the gears, and see if the grinds got better. Then go back, drain it one more time and refill again. If you want to use Syncromesh, the Pennzoil Syncromesh you can find at AutoZone is the same as the GM version (and much cheaper), you won't feel as bad draining it after 10 miles.
well i drained it and replaced it with honda mtf and it still grinds...god damn, damn seller lied to me and ****....i bought it thinking it was in good condition now he wont even reply my emails....i'll drive it for a while and give you guys an update later, i heard it could be a while before it stops grinding
