i don't know if I have a knock sensor or not...is it on the block or the head? I got a obd-2 ls block with a obd-1 b16 head... do you need a knock sensor and is it important to have? and wat does it do? and I'm also using a obd-1 p72 ecu with a obd-2 - obd-1 jumping harness. any help would be appreciated!!! thanks in advance!!!
it's located on the back of the block...a little above and to the left of the oil filter(if you are under the car looking up)...I have a swap and no knock sensor....I just run the highest octane pump gas available....been running it this way for 3 years now
LS blocks aren't tapped to accept knock sensors from the factory. A good many LS/VTEC users run chipped P28 ECU's which don't support knock sensors anyway, so no they aren't necessary.
The P72 will want a knock sensor. im running a P30 on my LS/VTEC and i had to drill and tap a hole for the knock sensor. People will tell you to use the alternator bracket on an LS block, but if you are leaving it in the car the best bet is to drill and tap a smaller hole on the top back right part of the head. Im not 100% sure, but aren't u suppose to use the GSR head with a P72 ECU because it will want to open the butterflys but there aren't any?
