Erratic speedometer - replace? lube? sensor?
On my '91 Accord Wagon, the speedometer has become erratic. It usually reads accurately, but occasionally the needle bounces around, sometimes dropping to zero.
Can the bearing or cable be lubricated?
Should I replace the sensor?

Are you tripping a code? (it would be code 17) (flashing S on the dash?) It may be your vehicle speed sensor (VSS) going on you. Mine went out. I got mine from a place up in MA off Ebay for less than $50 bucks. That and a few hours labor to install. Good reference for this: http://www.cybertrails.com/~be....html
This guy has some excellent insight on Hondas! Fantastic resource.

No, I don't think it is flashing any codes.
When your sensor failed, was there a time when the speedometer was erratic?
Should I consider the possibility that the wiring is being chafed? So far, it appears that there is nothing to clean or lubricate.
