i'm about to buy a high flow cat from ebay...just wondering if "high flow" cats are REALLY straight through design (no net inside or resistance)..that's all. anybody experience with ebay ones?

That CAT your looking at on ebay is not a real one, its actually a test pipe.

you want to look inside for a honey comb ceramic looking material inside for a real cat

 

actually i wanted a high flow cat that acts like a test pipe (straight through design). i just want confirmations on if they have any honey comb things in the inside of them that's all. no test pipe though.

 

Yes you can get a high flow cat that flows straight thru since they all do that its about the size of the holes that makes the difference.

And most of the high flow cats that your looking for will make you fail smog (if you live in cali )

When you say "honeycomb" are you referring to the resonator that hugs the wall of the piping to quiet the exhaust down? Or are you referring to the material that helps reduce emissions, like a stock cat?
A cat, or hi flow cat, actually aids in reducing emissions, for smog. The part you're looking at on the ebay auction is basically a resonator, with flanges. It's straight through, in no way assisting with reducing emissions.

yup, the "net" that blocks the piping.

where i live doesn't have emissions or smog checks...so no worries. there are people who got fined for test pipes though...of course they are illegal for street use, that's why i want a stock looking cat that is straight through design and acts like a test pipe.

i've searched for 20 minutes and found 2.25" piping to be better than 2.5" for N/A motors. since b16s are 2.25" at the collector, i think i should stick with 2.25" all the way through (catalytic to exhaust).

another question rise, if i get a new cat, do i need to buy one with a hole for the o2 sensor? i forgot where the o2 sensor is located...

Ok, I understand what you're asking. With the ebay auction piece, it's basically a resonator with flanges, there's nothing inside to help reduce emissions. It's a resonated straight pipe, they just titled the auction with the word cat, which it's not.
Depending on what header and cat you have now, if your 02 sensor is in the header, then you won't touch it at all. If it's in the cat, and you buy the ebay piece, you'll need to add a bung for the 02 sensor somewhere.

 

just find a used cat and gut it.. if your just worried about looks

 

Yeah go for it....i bought mine off of EBAY and there is almost nothing in there and it worked great.....although i later took it off for smog...so when you do get it MAKE SURE YOU SAVE YOUR STOCK ONE SO YOU CAN PASS SMOG!!!!
But yeah EBAY ones work great and it fit with no modification

i'm going for 2.25" all the way through. somehow i can't find ebay cats with 2.25" inlet & outlet. all they have are 2.25" inlet and 2.5" outlet. damnit!

 

that's strange...i'm pretty sure it's unusual for it to have two different sizes on both ends.....mine was 2.25 on both, strange

If you dont ever have to worry about smog then why spend any money and just gut your stock cat. Then you get the same effect without having to pay any money. Good luck though.

YOU KNOW WHAT I WAS JUST LOOKING AT THE LISTING FOR YOU AND NOTICED SOME OF THEM ONLY LIST THE DIFFERENT SIZES FOR HATCHBACKS.....I WONDER IF YOU HATCH PIPING IS DIFFERENT BEFORE AND AFTER THE CAT....CAN ANYONE ELSE HELP?
