LOOSE timing belt?
i recently did a valve adjustment and i noticed my timing was very loose. i checked the tensioner bolt and it was tight.....what could be the problem? would i have to replace the tensioner? if so, what part would i use for a JDM b16a. TIA
Well, if your belt is loose, than you run a strong chance that you will skip teeth and throw your pistons into your valves. If your valves were not adjusted properly, no big deal, they are supposed to be adjusted every 15,000 miles, and if you run it hard, than even more often. But, you adjusted them so problem solved. Your timing can't be loose, its either on or its off, we the belt that is. If the belt needs to be replaced, than do it asap.
Are you sure it wasn't just where the slack in the belt was?
Depending on how you turned the motor over by hand, the tension may just be off of the belt on the side your checking (usually the long side). Can you pull the belt off easily without moving the tensioner? If so, there's a problem. Usually when timing belts fail though, its the teeth that break off. I've personally never had a belt actually break or just stretch out although it does happen.
