Damn, those are pretty cheap! In my opinion, B16's run stronger than GSR motors...but if you like torque then go for the B18c1. You can build you own type-r...basically using a GSR block with a B16 head (along with Typr-R cams and ITR intake mani)...a lot cheaper than the Type-R motor will be. Good luck on whatever you do...

So you are saying to get a GSR and swap heads(eventually) would be cheaper, or to get a b16 and swap bottom ends ?

Depends on the application, I'm going to say the best bang for your buck (B series) in an EG would probably be the second gen B16A, IMO

cant go wrong with the b16, opt for the diff as well. but knowing what i now know, i would have done a gsr from the begining though. instead i sleeved my b16.

If you build it right you can mix a lot of different parts and come out with a good motor, but if were talking about stock motors the b18c1/5 are the best all around motors honda ever made... hands down. I would go with a GSR just because it's usually a lot cheaper than a Type R.

or you could go with a b18b and turbo it

Or you could go LS/Vtec and turbo that... you will probably pick up about 50whp over just the LS turbo...

I dunno. After having a B16 and now having a B18, I will never go back. B16 is a great motor, dont get me wrong, but the B18 just feels so much stronger. I have yet to lose a race lol. My boy tried to keep on the highway with me last night just to see how fast it was. He has a 02 3.2 TL and i left him by about 6 car lengths. We weren't really racing, but anyways. Id go with the GSR if you can afford it. Dont pay money for an ITR motor, just build your own like I did.

ok 1st off are LS/Vtec's even that reliable because i thought they were pretty skiddish and you ahve to be really carefull with them and what b18 do you have and in what car ? going b16 and just switching to a b18c bottom end would pretty much give me a type r wouldnt it !? Wouldnt that be cheaper or just as expensive as getting a gsr ?

Yes, going with a b16 and putting a gsr block on it is pretty much a type r, except for cams and intake manifold. A friend of mine had a b16 w/ a throttle body, flywheel, clutch, ventulli plate, apexi exhaust w/o cat, and some other little stuff. I have a jdm ITR engine with only a clutch. He started out in second, I started out in 3rd and I put about 6 car lengths on him. He now has an ITR too. It's worth the money if you have it, but if not, then I'd say go gsr. At least you will have a little more torque til you can piece together your own type r.

LS/Vtec's are fine if you build them right.

Ask the state police. According to them they have a nice little video of it. Find out in Febuary whether or not they do. He supposedly clocked us at 120. My question is, how can two cars be going 120, but one is pulling away from the other. Anyway, it is true. His b16 was smoking at the time due to putting in ctr pistons and not honing the cylinders. <--- Put about an 1/8 gouge in his one cylinder wall.
