Default I've been busy - Alpine units installed with custom dash trim piece - pics

Well, I finally got around to getting my DVA-7996 and PXA-H700 installed. Here are some pics for you....

Before:

After:

all in all, I'd say I'm very pleased - the texture and color of the trim piece matches very well with the factory plastic.

comments?

Yeah, it took a bit to start working on this car - I knew I was deep when I had all the seats and the carpet out, but it's just the same as any other 3 really

Thanks for the compliment!

The HVAC controls are in the factory location for a car that came with Navigation, so all I needed was a $40 part and it snapped in!

that is hot.

i'm assuming you started with a regular metra/ai/best dash kit...what is the rest made of? plastic weld or bondo?

can you get amber lighting out of your pxah700?

close but not quite - started with a radio blind and a manual climate control. The rest is bondo, wood, dynaglas, icing and a lot of sanding. go to http://www.sounddomain.com/id/sq_e46_m3 (page 2) for build up pics

yes, and it matches the bimmer (and the 7996) perfectly

Very nice very good match, how did you get the texture to match? was it hit and miss, or did you just keep redoing it untill it was right? 94

texture was done with a can of flat black from duplicolor - just spray the last few passes with the can 14" or so from the part - the paint gets a pebbly texture - just have to use light coats - it took me a few tries to get it right.

honestly, it came out sooo nice i dont even know how to react. from the pics, the radio shroud matches perfectly to your interior. it matches better than the stock radio housing. it looks like you spent a whole lot of time and had a lot of patience. 2 things i dont have. great job.

Alpine amber has always matched Bimmers. So close you would sware they made it for the BMW. Looks nice.
