I've been busy - Alpine units installed with custom dash trim piece - pics
Well, I finally got around to getting my DVA-7996 and PXA-H700 installed. Here are some pics for you....
Before: http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...22_73_full.jpg After: http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...22_69_full.jpg http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...22_70_full.jpg http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...22_71_full.jpg http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...22_72_full.jpg all in all, I'd say I'm very pleased - the texture and color of the trim piece matches very well with the factory plastic. comments? |

looks like they came out straight from the factory! |

The HVAC controls are in the factory location for a car that came with Navigation, so all I needed was a $40 part and it snapped in! |
what's in the trunk right now?

i'm assuming you started with a regular metra/ai/best dash kit...what is the rest made of? plastic weld or bondo? can you get amber lighting out of your pxah700? |

The rest is bondo, wood, dynaglas, icing and a lot of sanding. go to http://www.sounddomain.com/id/sq_e46_m3 (page 2) for build up pics <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">can you get amber lighting out of your pxah700?</TD></TR></TABLE> yes, and it matches the bimmer (and the 7996) perfectly https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif |

Very nice https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif very good match, how did you get the texture to match? was it hit and miss, or did you just keep redoing it untill it was right? https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emsmile.gif 94

Re: I've been busy - Alpine units installed with custom dash trim piece - pics (fcm)
texture was done with a can of flat black from duplicolor - just spray the last few passes with the can 14" or so from the part - the paint gets a pebbly texture - just have to use light coats - it took me a few tries to get it right.

Re: I've been busy - Alpine units installed with custom dash trim piece - pics (rcurley55)
honestly, it came out sooo nice i dont even know how to react. from the pics, the radio shroud matches perfectly to your interior. it matches better than the stock radio housing. it looks like you spent a whole lot of time and had a lot of patience. 2 things i dont have. great job.

Alpine amber has always matched Bimmers. So close you would sware they made it for the BMW. Looks nice. |
Wow, looks so nice words cannot describe. Love how the head-unit sits flushed, looks nice. Nice wiring job, very neat. What's the whole setup going in there?
